To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD CARDIGAN Gorr, resident of the town of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, British subject, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The invention relates to improvements in shirts, as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.

The invention conslsts essentially in the arrangement of the neck band whereby the main portion or portions of said neck band terminate at the front of the shirt above the bosom in order that a tab, made in a novel manner, may be arranged for the stud holes.

The objects of the invention are to provide a shirt having a neck band which will readily adjust itself to the size of the neck of the wearer, in the event of shrinkage of the shirt after washing or where the shirt is slightly too small around the neck portion, and to accomplish this purpose in an eco nomical manner and generally to devise a garment of simple form for the greater comfort of the user.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an open back shirt showing the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of an open front shirt, showing the present invention as applied thereto. Fig. 3 shows another form of the tab arrangement.

Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Fig. 1, 1 and 2 are the main portions of the neck band terminating in the sl'opin ends 3 and 4 above the bosom 5 of the shlrt. 6 is a central tab here shown as slightly deeper than the main portions 1 and 2 of the neck band in order to more conveniently accommodate the horizontal stud holes 7 and 8 arranged in vertical alinement, though it must be understood that this tab may be of the same depth as the neck band and also it may be joined to said neck band or form part therewith, said tab having the sloping ends 9 and 10.

In Fig. 2, 11 is the main portion of the neck band terminating in the sloping ends 12 and 13 above the bosom 1 1. 15 and 16 are tabs, each having the sloping ends 17 and 18- respectively and the horizontal stud holes 19 and 20 in vertical alinement therethrough. This invention is also very useful if a smaller collar than usual is worn for the tabs 15 and 16 have their stud holes arranged so that with a full sized collar the lower stud hole will be used, therefore, there will be no tendency of closing in the openings between the tab and the main portion or portions of the neck band, but when the upper stud hole is used with a tight collar, the tendency will be to partially close said openings without any crinkle being made in any part of the neck band. In addition to this, the tab or tabs may be left comparatively soft, that is to say, they need not be starched into a stiffness which would materially interfere with the wearers comfort. This feature must be particularly emphasized in open back shirts, though it is also important in open front shirts.

The essential pointin this invention is having the neck band in what are substantially speaking sections, that is to say, having one or more main sections according to the description of the shirt and one or more front tabs or sections according to the description of the shirt, and while it has been known to notch shirt bands for the accommodation of separable bosoms, this invention in having a tab for the stud holes arranged in a manner which will allow the band to accommodate itself to the size of the neck, is entirely novel, as far as I am aware.

In Fig. 3, 21 are incisions extending into the bosom 1 1 in a direction toward the center of said bosom from the openings between the main portions 1 and 2 of the neck hand and the tab 6, thus making the said tab much more pliable and in fact the neck band of the shirt considerably more adjustable to the neck of the wearer.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. In a shirt, a body portion forming a bosom in the front thereof, having a stiff neckband stitched to said body portion and terminating above the bosom in sloping ends suitably spaced, and tab means having correspondingly sloping ends secured to the bosom portion on the same line of stitching as said neckband and filling in said space and forming substantially part of said neckband between said sloping ends.

2. In a shirt, a body portion, a stiff bosom having converging cuts thereinto from the top side, a stifi neck band stitched to said body portion and bosom and terminating at the front at said cuts, having sloping ends substantially in alinement With 1 Si ned at Charlottetown P.
