Description

Feb. 27, 1934. KONSKI 1,949,312
GARMENT Filed May s. 1955 r W4 5 @MZW/ W4? ai' 7IATTORNEY Patented Feb. 27, 1934 UNITED STATES 3 Claims.
This invention relates to garments, and particularly to shirts, shirtwaists, blouses and the like, used on the upper part of the body, the object being to provide a construction wherein 8 the usual appearance is presented while a yielding action is given to the upper part of the back of the garment.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a garment of the type of a shirt having a yoke at the rear, wherein part is puckered and associated with an elastic structure capable of normally holding the shirt in a given position while being capable also of being stretched to an abnormal shape.
A further object of the invention, more speciflcally, is to provide a shirt or the like with one or more elastic gores at the upper part of the back with associated puckerings, whereby a yielding action is given between the shoulders.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a rear view of a figure having a garment embodying the invention arranged thereon, together with part of a pair of pants;
Figure 2 is a rear view of a garment similar to that shown in the upper part of Figure 1, the figure illustrating a modified construction;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2, showing a second modified construction.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a garment constructed according to the present invention, the same having a body 2 of any desired formation and provided with sleeves 3 and 4. The body 2 at the rear is provided with a yoke 5 having one or more scams 6. As shown particularly in Figure 1, the yoke 5 is divided centrally and an elastic substantially triangular-shaped insert 7 is arranged centrally of the garment. Preferably the elastic insert 7 stretches circumferentially of the garment but not necessarily longitudinally. This insert is also arranged so that the wide base 8 will be connected to the other part of the garment by the seam 6, while the narrow or truncated apex 9 is arranged at the narrow 5 opening. The seam 6 is provided when the insert 7 is stretched or under tension, so that when it comes back to its normal position there will be provided puckerings 10 for the full width of the base 8.
50 When the puckerings are present as shown in Figure 1, the garment is in its natural and normal position. In case the wearer should swing one or both shoulders towards the front, the rear of the garment would naturally be brought under tension and the elastic insert would yield, while the puckerings 10 would straighten out. As soon as the shoulders were swung back to normal position the parts of the garment would again assume the position shown in Figure 1. In many games as, for instance, golf, tennis or the like, 50 there is great strain on the shirts or other upper garments, and to overcome this and at the same time maintain the general appearance of the garment, puckerings 10 and inserts 7 have been provided.
While there is considerable contrast in the appearance shown in Figure 1 by reason of the heavy lines used to denote insert '7, in the actual garment the parts will be preferably of the same color and, consequently, will not be noticeable 70., but will function as just described.
In Figures 2 and 3 slightly modified structures are presented which function in the same way as that shown in Figure 1 as far as the yielding structure is concerned. In Figure 2, for instance, there are elastic triangular shaped members 11 and 12 associated with the puckerings 13 and 14 in the stitching or seam 6. As there is more elastic body in this form of the invention there will be a slightly greater yielding action, but when the strain is removed the parts will resume their normal position as illustrated in Figure 2.
In Figure 3 the elastic members 15 and 16 are arranged near the arm openings and function in substantially the same manner as the structure shown in Figure 2 functions.
In all forms of the invention the elastic member extends from the bottom of the yoke 5 upwardly either to the neck opening or the seam at or near the top of the shoulder. As the elastic members are preferably of the same color as the yoke they will not be at all prominent but will continually function to present a yielding structure.
I claim:-
1. A garment of the character described including a yoke in the back extending from the neck opening downwardly, an elastic insert dividing said yoke, and a line of stitching connect- 1o0 ing the body of t -e yoke with the remaining part I of the garment and also connecting the remaining part of the garment to the insert, said remaining part at the point where it is connected to the insert being puckered when the insert is in 195 its unstretched position.
2. A garment of the character described including a rear yoke divided into a plurality of parts and a pair of substantially triangular shaped spaced elastic inserts, said garment at the base m said body, a line of stitching connecting one edge of the insert to the body, said body at the point where it is connected to the insert being puckered when the insert is in its unstretched position whereby when tension is brought to bear on the respective sides of the body and the respective ends of the yoke the insert will be stretched and the puckers will allow an expansion of the body so that the insert may function.
