Description

cited gime @met @twine Letters Pittem: N .96,273, ma october 26, 1869.
IMPRovI-:D BLIND-HINGE.
The Schedule referred to in these LettersvPatent and making part of the sarne.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALFRED L. SEABURY and DAVIDSON MoRRIs, ol' Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk, and State of Virginia, have invented a. new' and useful Improved Hinge and Catch; and we do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the :ic(:on1pan \-'ing drawing, -in which- Figure l is an elevation Ot' the inner edge of' a window-traine, and two shutter-hinges secured thereto; and
Figure 2, a. transverse section, taken in the line a; :6, of g. 1, looking,r down on to the lower hinge.
Like letters designate like parts in all the tigure's.
The nature of our invention consists in connecting the upper and lower hinges of' wiinlow-shutters by means Ot'a rod, when said hinges are used for securing or looking the shutter in any desired position.
'lo enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construc- In the drawing, the upper and lower hinges are of diti'erent form, the upper One being intended for hea-vier shutters than the lower one. In the upper one, the upper half ot' thefhinge is represented as being; raised, to show the pivot upon which it turns.
A represents the portion of the l-:inge which is secured tothe window-traine, and B the lportion which is secured to the shutter. f
Each of'theln has circular` flanges, a, b.
In the centre of the lower one is n. pivot, c, upon which the upper one turns.
Pivoted to the Outer side of the parts A A are two levels, C C, the inner ends ot' which' unconnected together by means ofa, rod, D.
In the tlanges l) b are notches, 1, into which :the outer ends ol' the levers C C lit when it is desired ltohohl the shutters in any fixed position.
In the drawing, the hinge isv represented as it would he when the shutter is open or thrown back against the wall.
When it is desired to close the shutter, by raising" the rod D the outer ends ot the levers G-C willil be lowered and released from the notches in the flanges b @which will allow the shutter-to turn freely.
When it is closed, the notches next .to the shutter will be over the outer ends ot' the levers .C G, when, by drawing down the rod D, lthe said levers will resume their former positions, thereby again looking the hinges.
Having thus fully described our invention,
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Connecting the upper and lower hinges of shutters, when the hinges are used for holdingthe shutters in any desired position, by means ot'a. rod, or its equivelent, substantially as shown and described.'
lALFRED L. SEABURY. kDAVIDSON MORRIS.
