BLOUSE-SHIRT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CCiLm KOEHL Runen, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Jersey City Heights, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blouse-Shirts, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to an improved blouse-shirt in which the Suspenders are arranged at the inside of the shirt and the suspender-ends extended through slits at the y front and back of the shirt to the outside and applied to the buttons of the trousers.

Shirts provided with slits at the front and back for permitting the passage of the suspender-ends to the outside were made heretofore, the Letters Patent granted to Albert Rotch Perkins, No. 306,279, dated October 7, 1884, being a type of this style of shirts, the object of which is to cover the suspenders by the overshirt, while they still eectivelyY support the trousers.

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved blouse-shirt which combines the advantages of an outer shirt covering Suspenders and having exterior suspenderends, extending through front and back-slits of the shirt, with means for holding the outer shirt in position and preventing it from riding up on the suspender-ends, whereby a well-fitting appearance, similar to ladies waists, is imparted to the shirt.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a front-elevation of my improved blouse-shirt, Fig. 2 is a rear-elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3, 3, Fig. l, Fig. 4 is a detail vertical transverse section, drawn on a larger scale, on line 4, 4, Fig. l, and Fig. 5 is a detail horizontal section of a portion of the front-part of the shirt drawn on a larger scale, showing the location of the shirring string in the space between the shirt and the interior reinforcing band of the same.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings, a represents a neglige-shirt of any desired style or pattern. Adjacent to the waistband w of the trousers, the shirt a is provided with two pairs of slits Z) in its front-portion, and with two slits b1 in its back motion. The pairs of front slits b permit the outward extending of the front-ends f1 of the Suspenders to Speccaton of Letters Patent.

the outside of the shirt so as to apply them to the buttons on the waistband w of the trousers, while the back-slits b1 serve for extending the rear-ends of the suspenders f to the outside of the shirt for attachment to the rear-buttons of the trousers. At the inside of the shirt a, and extending over the front and rear-slits b, b1 of the same is arranged a reinforcing band d, which is stitched at its upper and lower edges to the shirt, and which is provided with slits Z1 at the front and back that coincide with the slits b, b1 so as to permit the convenient passing of the suspender-ends through the slits Z1 of the reinforcing band CZ and the slits Z9, b1 of the shirt, as shown in Fig. 4. In the space between the shirt a and reinforcing strip d is arranged a shirring string e, the ends of which are pressed out through a slit el in the front part of the shirt, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5. The shirring string e is tied in front, the ends being then pushed in between the shirt and trousers so as to be out of the way and covered by the trousers. When the ends of the shirring string e are drawn tight and tied together, the shirring string binds on the suspender-ends f1, so as to prevent the upward riding of the body-portion of the shirt on the suspender-ends and hold the shirt tightly in position. The arrangement of the shirring string removes the objectionable features of neglige-shirts with inside suspenders, as it holds the body-portion of the shirt in neatly-arranged position and prevents the riding up of the same on the suspender-ends, whereby a neat and attractive appearance is imparted to the shirt.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

l. A blouse-shirt having a reinforcing strip secured at its upper and lower edges to the inner face of the shirt and extending therearound at the waist-line, said face and said strip being provided with a plurality of registering front and back slits for suspender-ends, and a shirring string in the` lower part of the space between said inner face and the reinforcing strip.

2. A blouse-shirt provided with slits in the front and back-portions of the body for extending the suspender-ends to the outside of the same, a reinforcing strip extending adjacent to the slits at the inside of the shirt, said reinforcing strip being provided with slits coinciding with the slits of the Shirt, a Shifting string located n the Space as my invention, I have signed my name in between the slnrt and relnforeed band, and presence of two subsorlblng Wltnesses.
