Description

A MARSCHNER TROUSERS SUPPOBTER.
APPLIGATION FILED 0012.30, 190s.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909'.
atto/anu# ALFRED MARSCHNER, 0F OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
TROUSERS-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 19, 1909.
Application filed Gctober 30, 1908. Serial No. 460,244.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED M'AnscHNnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Omah'a, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in trousers supporters, and the device may be used for the. support of other garments employing a waistband.
The object of the invention is to provide means for supporting` garments, and especially trousers, upon the body without use of Suspenders which ordinarily pass over the shoulders, and causing the weight of the garment to be supported by the hips.
The invention provides a means for supporting the garment upon the hips in a manner to prevent pressure of said garment at the waist line against the body of the wearer, Athus conducing to comfort and obviating strain at the waist line when bending forward, and permitting ventilation.
The invention comprises a pair of bearing members adapted to have seatings upon or ,immediately above the hips of the wearer,
each of these bearingmembers being provided with a support extending upward and secured upon a side of the waistband, whereby said waistband may be sustained above the bearing members and above the hips, means being provided for increasing or decreasing the dist-ance apart of the bearing members.
The invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts as de.- scribed herein, pointed out by the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,-
Figure l is a perspective view, partly broken away, of trousers, with my newly invented trousers supports secured thereon. Fig. 2 is a view showing part of the body of the wearer of trousers, with my supports attached thereto. y
Referring now to the drawing for a more particular description, numeral l indicates trousers with waist-band 2. I- construct a pair o f bearing members or varms 3 adapted to have seatings upon or immediately above the hips of the wearer, each preferably having an outward curvature at its middle to conform to the shape of the body and provided with a support, preferably by employment of arms t and 5, extending upwardly from the ends of each bearing member to the waistband, upon which, as indicated at their terminals are secured. Each of the Supports thus described may be economically constructed of a single piece of metal, as spring-steel wire, bent to the form mentioned, members 8 preferably being covered as shown in the drawing, with rubber or other yielding substance so that the bearing of these members upon the hips will be comfortable, this feature, however, not being important, and other material than that already mentioned may be employed, if desired, for constructing the arms and members 3. IVhile arms or members 3 have the slight curvature mentioned, they4 conform substantially to the shape of the hips, and when the device is in use they are disposed transversely of the body of the wearer and extend in the same direction as the waistband.
I employ a connecting-inember or band 7, having its terminals secured upon loops 8 formed upon the lower ends of arms 5, these loops being for the purpose of preventing the band from slipping upward on the arms. Band 7 may be passed around the back of the wearer; it is adjustable as to length by means of buckle 9. By decreasing the length of the band, members 3 will be drawn in ytoward each other, as is apparent.
In operation, after arms t and 5 are secured upon the waistband, connecting-meniber 7 may be lengthened or shortened, as required, so that the garment will be properly adjusted to the person. To raise the trousers upon the person, the length of the band is decreased; this causes members 3 to have seatings upon that part of the hips nearer the waist of the wearer, and this is reliably operative to sustain the weight of the garment. At this time the waistband is drawn rearwardly, the front part thereof being pressed against the body, the slack portion being at the rear, as clearly shown in F ig. 9, and thereby allowing the above mentioned ventilation. Also the operation of decreasing the length of band 7 causes the lower ends of-arms 5 to be drawn closer to the body of the wearer, thereby moving outwardly the terminals of arms 4: and 5; this tends to move the side portions of the waistband outwardly from the body, which is a matter of comfort and is especially appreciated by t-he wearer of the device.
To lower the garment upon the person, band 7 is lengthened, thereby allowing members 3 to bear lower upon the hips. After a proper adjustment is made, no further adjustment is required. The supports are not obtrusive while in use, or uncomfortable, and are effective for supporting the garment in lieu of ordinary Suspenders. The device is particularly appreciated in warm weather and warm climates, and is very convenient for use in connection with the wearing of shirt waists.
Since arms t and 5 are substantialbT rigid and are secured upon the waistband, meinbers 3 are maintained -oppositely disposed -relative to each other at an altitude below the waistband.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
l. A supporting device for garments having wastbands, comprising a pair of supporting-arms secured upon and at opposite sides of t-he waistband; a bearing-member secured upon and disposed at an altitude lower than each supporting-arm for a bearing upon the hip of the wearer; and means to increase or decrease the space between the terminals of said bearing-members.
2. A supporting device :tor the purpose de scribed, comprising, in combination with the waistband; a pair of supporting-urn1s sccured upon and at opposite sides of the waistband; a bearing-member secured upon and disposed at an altitude lower than each supportingarln for. ay transverse bearing upon a hip of the wearer; means upon and extending` between the rear ends of the bearing-arms for decreasing the distance therebetween for causing the front of the trousers waist to be drawn taut and to cause the rear part of the waist to have a fullness when adjusted upon the wearer.
In testimony whereof I have allxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
