IMPROVEMENT IN FARM-GATES.
The Schedule lreferred to in these Letterl,Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it 'may concern Be it known that I, CALVIN HART, of Farmington, in the county of Fulton, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful AImprovements in Farin-Gates; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view, and
Figure 2 a perspective of the rollers operating my gate; l
Similar letters indicate like parts in both figures.
My invention relates to improvements in gates; and to this end,
It consists in the employment of a' clasp provided with rollers, for opening and closing the gate.
It also consists in the peculiar construction of the gate, substantially as hereinafter set forth.A
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing- ,L E represent two posts, to which is attached the board-fence N'.
D is a post, secured at a sutablcdistance from the post E, and A A are two posts secured near each other, as seen in tig. 1.
G represents the gate, which-is passed between the posts D E A A.
The upper rail, B, of the gate is made longer than the rest of the gate, and runs along the top vrail K of the fence.
I is a brace, one end of which is secured tothe railv B, and the other is secured to the upright bar G of the gate.
It will be seen that the top and bottom rails, B H, of the gate are much thicker than the rest of the rails.
F is a roller, pivoted between the posts D and E. On this rollerworks the top ,rail of' 'the gate. l
J represents a metalvelasp,`made as seen in g. 2, and secured to the top rail B.
This clasp is provided with the pivoted rollers Maud N, one working above, and the other below the top rail K of the fence.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The gate C, as constructed, -in combination with roller F and clasp J, provided with upper and lower rollers M and N, all arranged to operate substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses'.-
OALVIN HART.
