Description

UNITED F STATES PATENT 7 OFFICE.
THOMAS D. TAYLOR, OF HARTLETON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GATES.
- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,682, dated December 3, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS D. TAYLOR, of Hartleton, in the county of Union and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement inFarm-Gate; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to-the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a side view of my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of thesame; and Fig. 3- is a detail view.
This invention has relation to farm-gates designed to move longitudinally by the aid of rollers; and it consists in the special construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawing, A designates a panel of the fence to which the gate is applied. Said panel is composed of two horizontal bars and an upright post at each end. The horizontal bars are secured by screws or equivalent devices to the sides of the posts, as shown. At the ends adjacent to the gateopening, each horizontal bar is provided with a pair of brackets or standards, a, supporting grooved rollers b partially lying within recesses a, in the post B, as shown. The gate is composed chiefly of the horizontal bars 0 C, the middle batten'D, and the end battens To one end of the upper bar 0 and the lower bar 0 are attached the loop-plates or brackets e, which, when the gate is applied to the fence, pass under the horizontal bars "of the panel A, as shown. The upper and lower bars 0 0 lie upon the peripheries of the flanged rollers b, and move along upon the same when the gate is shifted. The bars 0 O holding the loop-platese are also'provided with brackets 6', depending therefrom and supporting flanged rollers G, which, when the gate is shifted, travel along the upper edges of the fence bars. These rollers enable the gate to be easily manipulated, and lie partially within recesses c. To enable the batten D to pass the rollers b it is recessed, as shown at D The front-end' batten E is also recessed, as shown at D, so that the gate may be moved to the utmost limit when opened.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved gate, composed of the horizontal bars 0 O and the recessed battens D .E, and provided with loops e, brackets c, and
flanged rollers G, in combination with the fence-panel having its front end post recessed, and having attached to its horizontal bars the brackets to holding the flanged rollers b, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS D. TAYLOR.
