Description
ISRAEL L. LANDIS, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FNCES.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,837, dated July 23, 1872.
Specification describing an Improved Fence, invented by ISRAEL L. LANDIs, of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania.
This invention is an improvement on a fence patented by S'. H. Rose, September 25,1866; and it consists in combining with the pins that l pass horizontally through the posts, and support the panels in an upright position, other pins that pass transversely through the batten-strips of the panels, and prevent the-panels beingraised by small stock in their effort to passv under the same, all as will be hereinafter fully explained.
Figures l and 2 are two modifications of fence illustrating my invention. Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
A in the drawing represents a fence-panel, which may have longitudinal rails, as shown in Fig. 1, or vertical rails or palings, as shown in Fig. 2. -At both ends of each panel are two parallel strips, B B, which are firmly attached .toA the longitudinal pieces, and between which is passed a transverse rivet or bolt, b. G is a post, which may be formed of any kind or character of wood. Through this is bored two horizontal holes, c c, one near the upper and the other near the lower end. DD are bolts, formed of metal or wood, and passed through these holes and made to support the panel, as shown in Rose patent. Below the pins D, at each end of the panel, I pass transversely v.through the batten-strips a pin, b, which pins, bearing against the under side of the pins D,
prevent the panels being raised by small stock 4attempting to pass under them.
By this construction the pins can be simplyl
