UNITED STATES PATEN OFFXCE.
FRANK F. DUNN, OF SPRINGFIELD, AND MICHAEL FRANGLER DUNN, OF LONDON, OHIO.
DOOR-SEGURER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK F. DUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, Clark county, Ohio and MIOHAEL FRANOLER DUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at London, in the county of Madison and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved door securer.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for fastening a door on the inside to prevent it from being opened from the outside, thereby guaranteeing absolute security against skeleton and other keys.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a horizontal section through a closed door and easing showing one form of this improved fastener applied, Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the fastener detached.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 a door 1 and jamb 2 of ordinary construction are shown. This j amb 2 is provided with the usual recess 3 to receive the catch member of the doorlock. The fastener shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a plate 4 having a tongue 5 at one end thereof bent to form a loop and having a block 6 secured therein, and which is designed to be inserted in the recess 3 of the door jamb with the plate 4 projecting inside the room at right angles to the inner face of the door, the end of said plate adjacent to the block carrying a tongue lying between the inner face of the jamb and the edge of the door when the door is closed. This plate is provided near the tongue carrying end thereof with two series of longitudinally spaced apertures as 7 and S, the apertures 7 being preferably arranged near one edge of the plate, and those 8 near the other edge thereof, for a purpose to be described. Another series of longitudinally spaced apertures as 9 are formed at the other Specification of Letters Patent.

end of the plate between and in a plane parallel with the series 7 and 8 to receive one end of a brace member now to be described. This brace member preferably comprises an approximately V-shaped member 10 having the free ends thereof bent downwardly, then outwardly and then downwardly again to form hooks 11 and 12, which are adapted to extend through one of the apertures of each series 7 and 8 and engage the opposite side of the plate. The apex of this V-shaped loop is preferably bent downwardly as shown, and a locking member or brace 13 is secured thereto by means of an eye 14, and the free end of this brace 13 is bent to form a hook-like member 15, adapted to extend through one of the apertures as 9 at the other end of the plate 4 to lock said brace member 10 in operative position with the lugs thereof bearing against the face of the door, as is shown in Fig. 1. This plate 4 is preferably made of sheet steel, or any other suitable material and the three rows of apertures formed therein may be arranged either in a straight line or zigzag, and any number of holes for each series provided. The bent ends of the member 10 are designed to give sufficient spring to permit the brace 18 when pressed down to slide in one of the holes of the series 9.
A wedge 16 of wood or any other suitable material is designed to be slipped between the edge of the door casing and the plate 1 after the latter is placed in position.
This little keyless lock will guarantee security to the occupant of the'room on which it is used against skeleton keys in the hands of burglars or others, and against duplicate keys in the hands of unscrupulous servants and gives to the occupant privacy when desired.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood. without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A door securer comprising a plate having 10 said member and having means for detachmeans for engaging the door j amb and proable engagement with the series of apertures vided with laterally spaced longitudinally at the other end of said plate. extending series of apertures at one end, and In testimony whereof we have hereunto with another series of apertures at its other setour hands in presence of two subscribing end arranged in a plane between said spaced witnesses.
series, an approximately V-shaped member FRANK F. DUNN. having the free ends thereof bent to form 5 M. FRANCLER DUNN. hooks for engagement with said laterally Witnesses:
spaced apertures, and a brace connected with ANNA EMERY,
| GUY UNDERWOOD.
