Description

(No Model.)
E. A. BULLOCK.
DO0R1SBGURER.`
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD A. BULLOOK, OF DU BOIS, PENNSYLVANIA.
Doon-secunia.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,426, dated February 17, 1885.
Application tiled November 1, 1894. (No model.)
To all whom, it may con/cern,.-
Beit known that I, EDWARD A. BULLocK, a'citizen of the United States of America, residing at Du Bois, in the county of Clearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Door Key and Ring; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specitcation.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined key-holders and door-fa`steners; and my invention consists in combining with a spring bail or loop a cross-bar having perforated ends, with which sid loop engages, andacentral screw-threaded o, ening for the reception of a screw-threaded bar having a projecting spur, as will be hereinafter set forth.
My invention also consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be fully described, and pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a view showing the saine applied to a door as fastener. Fig. 2 is a perspective view. Fig. 3 isa modication of my invention, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view.
A represents a spring bail or loop, one end, a, of which is bent upon itself, so as to be permanently secured to the cross-bar B, the ends of which are bent downwardly and provided with perforations b b. The opposite end of the loop, a', is bent at nearly right angles with its upper end, so as to enter the end of the perforation b. It will be readily seen by this construction that to open the loop in order to place keys or other objects thereon it is only necessary to spring the end a. out of the perforation in the cross-bar. The cross-bar B is enlarged centrally, and is provided with a screw-threaded opening, b', within which fits the screw-threaded end c of the bar O, which bar is slightly flattened between the screwthreaded end and the spur c'. The lower end of t-he bar() is provided with a notch,d,wl1ich will, owing to the spring-pressure of the loop, retain said bar in the position shown in Fig. 2.
When it is desired to use the device as a door-fasteni r, the bar C is removed from the crossebar B and placed between the door and jamb, so that the spur will enter the jamb.
The at side of the cross-bar is then screwed upon the bar O until it contacts both with the door and jainb, which will prevent the door being opened.
It will be noticed that the spring-loop, besides serving as a holder for keys, is also used as a handle to turn the cross-bar, and that, providing said cross-bar with bent ends. the loop may be permanently secured in one of the perforations in the bent end.
Fig. 3 represents a modification of my invention, in which case the end of the crossvbar is provided with recesses in-which the bent ends of the spring-loop are placed, both of said ends being bent atan angle with the body portion of the loop. By this construction it is not necessary to remove the bar G from the cross-bar when it is desired to use the same as a door-fastener.
I claiml. In a combined door-fastener and keyholder, a cross-bar having a central screwthreaded opening and perforated ends, a springloop, and bar screw-threaded at one end and provided with a spur near the opposite end, substantially as shown.
2. In a combined doorfastener and keyholder, a cross bar pivotall y secured to a spring-loop,and provided with acentral screwthreaded opening, in combination with a bar having a screw-threaded end, aspur, and a notched end for engaging with the loop, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
- EDWARD A. BULLOGK. Witnesses;
M. D. L. DoDsoN, D. J. CROWELL.
