SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 284,336 dated September 4, 18 83.
' Application filed March 27. 1883. (No model.)
Be it known that I, ALFRED L. SCRANTGN, of Rochelle, in the county of Ogle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Door-Handles, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact. description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same.
My invention relates to a combined door handle, latch, and hasp, the object being to this character adapted for usewith either a sliding or hinged door, and reversible to admit of its attachment to either a right or left hand door. e
The invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In thedrawings, Figure 1 illustrates a combined sliding and hinged door provided with my improvement, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the combined handle, latch, and hasp detached.
A represents the catch-plate of the latch adapted to be secured to the frame of the door and provided with a catch, a, and a perforated lug, a I
B represents the base-plate of the latch and handle, having secured thereto I a.latch-plate,
Ojiis provided with a projecting lug, c, and throughiwhich latter Said latch is pivotally, secured to the base-plate B by a pin, (2, andis formed with an extension, E, bent upon the latch to form a handle, F but, if preferred, the handle may beformed of a separate piece of material and be secured to the latch. The end of the latch is formed with the usual slots or ,with each other toform a Patent, is
plate A. When the door is closed it will be 5 observed that the lugs a and 0 will register hasp to receive a padlock or other fastening.
'The combined latch and handle is very simple in construction, upon doors or gates of all kinds, whether hinged or sliding.
It will be apparent that many slight alterations in the details of my improvement may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction here shown and described, but
reserve to myself the right to make all such changes and alterations in the details of construction as may properly fall within the scope of my invention. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 5 1. In a combined door-handle,' latch, and hasp, the combination, with a catch-plate pro- 'vided with a perforated lug, of a latch-plate, having a corresponding perforated lug and a base-plate, and a combined latch and handle pivotally secured to said base-plate, substantially as set forth. 1
2. The combination, with the catch-plateprovided with a catch and a hasp extension, of
a base-plate and latch-plate, the latter being provided with a slot to receivethe latch, and I a hasp-extension adapted to register with the catch-plate, and a latchgpi'votally secured to said base-plate and bent upon itself to form a handle, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED L.- sonnnron.
