Description

ALLAN WICKS, o CORLD, NEW YORK.
,; New York, have invented a new and useful Door-Fastener, and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear,.and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to vvhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention pertains to an adjustable pocket door securer; and the object of the inventioi1 mainly is to effectively secure a door agaii1st being involuntarily or clandestinely orced open, that is, after having been secured, a s will be reaolily manifest.
The invention, speoifically speaking, provides urther objects, namely, an adjustable pocket door securer comprising a plurality of blades or bars, two of which are provitled with spurs and are adapted to be inserted in the interval between a door and its jamb, so that the spurs are forced into said jamb, that is, when the door is closed.
A furtl1er object of the invention, that is, specifically speaking, is to provide a third bar or blade of the plurality thereof with a resilient bulge or spring portion at the end thereof, vvhich is adapted to engage frictionally the jamb of the door frame, and the purpose of which is to cause the blades to fit various intervals between doors and their jambs, as will be clarly evident.
A further object of the invention, specifically speaking, is to proVide a locking blade or bar, adapted to engage the surface of the door, to prevent the same fro1n being opened, and a thumb screw which is threaded into the blade or bar adjacent to the locking blade and adapted to contact with the blade aoljacent to the blade having the resilient bulge or spring portion, so as to cause the blades or bars having the spurs to spread. thus holding the device rigidly and securely in place, as will be clearly seen in the draw- 1n.qs.
This invention comprises further objects and combinations of elements which will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accom1: anyingdrawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out by the appended claim.
The features, elements and the arrangement thereof, Which constitute the above entitled invention, may be changed and varied, that is to say, in an actual reducton to Speciflcaticih O ;Iietters Patent. Applicaton flled Ma.y4, 1908. Serial No. 430,659.
of the appended claim.
Patented Dec. 22, 1903;.
practice, with the understanding that the changes and variations accruing from said reduction to practice are linnted to the scope T0 obtain a full and correct understanding of the details of construction, coinbinations of 'eatures, elements and advantages, reference is to he had to the hereinafter set -forth description and the accompanying dravvings in connection therevvith, Wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door and its jamb, that is, a portion thereof, showing an interval therebetween, in which the aoljnstable pocket door securer is inserted. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view through the door and its j amb, so as to clearly illustrate the manner in which the adjustable pocket door securer is applied. Fi,q. 3 is a detail perspective view of the adjustable pocket door securer.
In the drawings, wherein si1nilar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several illustrations, 1, 2, 3 and 4 designate the blades or bars Which form the adjustable pocket door securer, and which blades or bars are pivotally secured together, as at 5, and in such a manner as to leave an interval 6 between each blade thereof, as seen clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings. This interval between each blade is provided by forming bosses 7 upon one side or face of each blade or bar, that is to say, about the pivot of said blade or bar.
The blades 2 and 3 at their ends, that is, their free ends, are provided with spurs 8 adapted to be forced into the jamb 9 as the door 10 is closed, as will be clearly e"ident, while the blade 01 bar 4 is provided with a reslient bulge or spring portion 11, adapted to engage, or be positioned, in the interval or space 12 between the j amb 9 and the blade 3, S0 as to cause the plurality of blades to snugly fit the interval between the jamb and the door, and is further provided for the purpose of fitting various sizes of intervals betvveen doors and their 'ambs.
The blade 1 is employed mainly as the locking blade 01 bar, and is provided with a portion 13 which is disposed directly at right angles with the body of the said blade 1, and is adapted to contact with the surface of the door, so as to prevent the same trom being involuntarily opened. The blade 1 is pro vided with an aperture 11, through which the shank 15 of the thumb screw 16 passes, which shank is threaded into the blade 2, at
ts extreme end, as at 17, beng adapted to frctonally contact Wth the surface of the blade 01 bar 3, S0 as to cause the blades 2 and 3 to spread, fox the purpose of more readly causng the spurs 8 to nsert themselves nto the jamb of the doorframe, and to furthcr cause the reslent bulge portion to be com pressed, Whch causes the blades 01 bars, name1y, 2, 3 and 4, to fit snug1y and securely in the nterml between the door and its jamb, as Wl1 be readily manifest.
From the foregcing, the essental features, elements and the operaton of the device, together wth the smplicty thereof, W11 be clearly apparent.
I-Iavng thus fu11y descrbed the inventon, What is claimed as new and useful, by the protection of Letters Patent, is:
In a device as set forth, a pluralty of b1ades or bars, two of whch have spurs adapted t0 nsert themselves nto a jamb of a doorframe, a thrd blade or bar of the plu- 1lty beng provded With a reslent bulge or spring porton adapted for the purpose of causng the blades t0 fit snugly and securely in ntervals between doors and ther jambs, a thumb screw threaded in 2111 apertu1e of one of the blades having the spurs and adapted for the purpose of separatng the blades havng the spurs, a fourth bladeof the pluralty havng 2111 angled portion and adapted as a lockng blade fox the dev1ce.
In testmony whereof I have Sgned my name t0 ths specificaton in the presence of two subscribng witnesses.
