Be it known that I, LOUIS TOWNSEND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vheeled Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in wheeled toys, and the object is to provide means whereby balls will be actuated by the rotation of the wheels as the cart is moved.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in top plan, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, Fig. 3 is a bottom plan View, and Fig. 4; is a detail.
A, represents the toy, which is provided with a handle 1, and an axle 2 is journaled to the toy body and supported on wheels 3, The base portion of the toy is cut away in the rear to afford clearance for the wheels 3, 3, and connected to the under side of the body portion is a curved or are shaped wire 4:, which passes through openings 5 in springs (3, (3, which are secured to the bottom of the toy, and which wire extends upwardly from the body of the toy. Mounted upon the wire is a ball 7 which rests upon one of the springs (3. Crank pins 8, 8, are connected to the hubs of the wheels 3 in position to alternately engage and flex the springs G, (3, causing the ball to be thrown back and forth from one side of the toy to the other. A rectangular frame 9 is connected to the body portion of the toy from beneath by a shank 10. The vertical members of the rectangular frame 9 extend through springs 12, 12, which latter are connected to the bottom of the toy, and the body portion of the toy is recessed as at 13, 13, for the reception of balls 14C, 1 1, which are mounted on the verticalmembers of frame 9 normally resting on the springs 12, 12. These balls are actuated by crank pins 15 and 16, on axle 2. These pins are disposed Specification of Letters Patent.

at an angle to each other, so that they will alternately actuate the springs 12, 12, as the shaft turns, causing the balls to be thrown alternately.
The crank pins 8, 15 and 16 are so arranged that they actuate the dilferent balls so that one of the balls on the frame 9 will be operated, then the ball on the arc shaped wire -:t will be operated, and then the other ball on the frame 9 will be operated, then the ball on the curved wire 1 will again be operated, and so on as long as the wheels are rotated.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a toy which will create a certain amount of noise and be an attraction to children, and which can be operated by merely drawing the toy along the floor or table as desired.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not Wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
'l. A toy comprising a body, a curved wire connected at opposite ends to the body, a rectangular frame connected to the body, springs, a ball on the curved wire and balls on the rectangular frame all normally resting upon the springs, and means for actuating the springs to operate the balls.
A toy comprising a body, a curved wire connected at opposite ends to the body, springs connected to the body, a ball on the wire resting upon one of the springs, and means for actuating the springs for throwing the ball back and forth.
3. A toy comprising a body, springs connected thereto, a curved wire connected to the body, a ball on the wire, a frame connected to the body said wire and frame ex tending through the springs, balls 011 the frame, and means for actuating the springs for operating the balls.
4. A Wheeled toy comprising a body, an aXle connected to the body, Wheels mounted on the axle, springs connected to the body, a curved wire connected to the body, a ball on the Wire, a frame connected to the body Wheels adapted to engage the springs for operating the balls. 10
