Application filed March 17, *h T o all ulmm it ma 1/ concern:
Be. it. known thatI I, WILLIA B. FisK,
ol Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Retaining Combs, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in hair-retaining combs 'for confining ladies hair; and the object-isti provide asii'nplitied i construction whereby the comb may be c-on-l veniently adjusted and ell'ectively maintained in a desired position without risk of entangling the hair.
In describing` the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilication, and wherein like characters of reference designate cor-- .responding parts throughout the several Figure l represents a side view of a comb embodying my invention; and Fig. 2, a transverse section of the saine.
The comb is constructed of well-known resilient materia, having a back or body member 1, formed with aloop or fold to increase its elasticity, and provided with the A perforation 3 is formed in the body of the comb, through which loosely ber in any suitable manner.
The several parts of the comb are so formed as to secure a yielding Contact between the teetlrof the opposing members to engage and clamp the hair with suflieient force to ret-ain the comb in position. The loo or fold formed with the body of the com) may be readily grasped by the hand and compressed to release the action of the clamping member for disengaging the hair from the comb or adjusting the position of the latter.
-While I have shown. the toothed clam )ing member as being separately formed and sei Specification of Letters Patent.

- A 'aft eiired with rivets to thebody lofthe comb, it will be readily understood thatit may be in tegrally Vformed therewith if maite of suflieiently elasticmaterial. Also tlicfteeth may be omitted on the clamping member and the clamping section thereof made solid without detraetiiig f rom its clamping powers,`
Combs of this character as ordinarily constructed contain numerous` )arts which act as obstructions in catching tlie haii' and preventing its i'eady adjustment. or disengagement..
What I claim as myinvention and desire to secure by Lett-ers Pat-ent, is:-'
1. A hair-retaining comb having a resilient back or body member provided with a perforation, and a clamping member secured to the resilient. body member and passed through said perforation and yieldingly engaging the..
-t'eet-h of the comb.
2. .\hairretam1ng comb having a resilient back or body member bent to form a loop or fold and provided with a |lierforat-ion, and a.
clamping member securei to the resilient body member and passed through said per foration and yieldingly enga-ging the teeth of the comb.
3. A hair-retaining comb having a resilient back or body member and a toothed clam ing member secured to the resilient bo( y member and yieldingly engaging the teeth of t-lie comb.
4. A hair-retaining comb having a, resilient back or body. member provided with a perforation, and a toothed clamping member secured to the resilient body member and passed through said perforation and yieidingly engaging the teeth of theV comb. Y
