Description

No. 877,516. PATENTED JAN. 28, 1908.
W. R. OPPBNHEIMER.
SUSPENDBRS. APPLICATION FILE1 APR.11.1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFI WILLIAMR. OPPENHElMER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1908.
Application filed April 11. 1907. Serial r fsemsv.
siding at Philadelphia, county of Philadelj phia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspenders, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is the production of suspenders in which the shoulder straps are free to adjust themselves to the wearer and move and readjust themselves to the movements of the body of the wearer without varying or moving the garment securing device or the garment to which they are attached. Speaking generally, I accomplish this result by connecting the holder for the garment securing device and the shoulder straps by means of a cord or any other material which is so connected with the shoulder straps that the shoulder straps are movable along it so as to accommodate themselves to the movement of the wearer without affecting the garment securing device. Preferably this arrangement is formed by means of a cord, the free ends of which are connected with the holder for the garment securing device and pass through orificed projections secured to the shoulder straps and through an orifice in the garment securing device holder.
will first describe the embodiment of my invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then point out the invention in the claims.
In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of suspender shoulder straps with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing a pair of suspenders adapted for summer us with my invention applied thereto.
peaking of Fig. 1 a a are the shoulder straps. b b are loops secured to the end of each shoulder strap. 0 c are projections pivoted at d to said loops and having orifices e. f is the holder for the garment securing I device, having the orifice g. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the garment connecting device is a cord h formed with loops i to engage buttons on the garment and which cord it passes through the orifice g. A cord 1' has its ends connected with the holder f, the cord passing through the orifice g and the orifices e. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the cords h and y' are formed of hollow webbing. Any construction of cord or equivalent de- 1 vice may be used in place of cords h and y'.
In the construction shown in Fig. 2 there is provided at each end of each of the shoulder straps a loop I) and an orificed projection j c with corresponding orificed holders f for the garment securing device, and cord 3' conl nected with the'holders f and shoulder strap projection c. In this construction the garment securing device is comprises a wire bent to form a loop adapted to engage a button. In this construction the cord 3' is an ordinary twisted cord. The construction shown in Fig. 2 is especially designed for summer wear where the entire shirt is desired to be exposed the suspenders being designed to be worn beneath the shirt, each loop being passed I over one of the shoulders and the suspenders secured at two points to the garment, the garment being provided with buttons or retaining devices on the band, the garment securing device 75 being looped upon the button through the shirt, thus not only holding the garment in position but the shirt and garment in constant relation to each other.
With the use of my invention the susponder can adjust itself to the wearer without affecting the garment. Moreover, the wearer has absolute freedom of movement without affecting the garment.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
j 1. In suspenders in combination, shoulder straps, orificed projections therefrom, a holder for a garment securing device, a cord, the
ends of which are secured to said holder between the orifice dprojections, said cord passing through the orifices in the shoulder strap 1 projections.
2. In suspenders, in combination, shoulder straps, orificed projections hinged thereto, a holder for a garment securing device, a cord, the ends of which are secured to said holder, contiguous to each other, said cord passing through the orifices in the shoulder strap projections and a metallic looped garment securing device secured to said holder.
3. In suspenders, in combination, shoulder straps, orificed projections at each end thereof, a holder for a garment securing device corresponding to each end of said shoulder straps, cords, one for each end of the shoulder straps, the ends of each cord being secured to its corresponding holder intermediate of the 5 corresponding orificed projections, and each cord assing through the orifices in the correspon ing shoulder strap projections.
In testimony of. which invention, I have hereunto set my hand, at Philadelphia, on this 30th day of March, 1907.
WILLIAM R. OIPENHEIMER.
