"unir WILLIAM FREEMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPE NDERS Application filed September 6, 1905.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 9, 1909.
Serial No. 277,219.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FREEMAN, a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable otheis skilled in the art t0 which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in suspeiiders, and more particularly to means for adjusting the saine,-tlie object of the invention being to provide simple and eliicient means for quickly eecting the desired adjustment of the Suspenders without necessitating the use of an excessive amount of webbing.
A further object is to so construct the device that a comparatively slight movement of the parts will effect a relatively wide range of adjustment without exposing a long end of the webbing to view.
TWith these objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a view of a portion of a pair of suspeiiders, embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view ot the same; Fig. 3 is a view showing a slight modiiication, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the adjusting slide.
1 represents a strap or webbing of a pair of Suspenders; 2 an adjusting slide; 3 a cast-oil connected by means of a instal loop 4 with the suspender webbing, and 5 a suspender end attached to the cast-off.
The adjusting slide comprises a rectaiigular frame having arms or fingers 6 projecting from the ends of the frame inwardly toward each other and dividing the slide or frame into two loops 7 and 8. A clamping lever 9,
having teeth 10, is mounted on the outer bar or member of loop 7.
The webbing 1 is passed down through the loop 7 ofthe adjusting slide and then through the metal loop 4. It is then extended upwardly and again passed through the loop 7 of the adjusting slide. The end of the webbing is then turned and passed downwardly through the loop 8 of the adjusting slide and is, by the outer bar of this loop, held between the loop 12 formed by the webbing, and the shirt of the wearer. In fact, the loop 8 will hold the free end 13 of the webbing close to the loop 12.
In the form of the invention shown iii Fig. 3, the loop 8 is made wider than in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 so as to hold the free end of the webbing more closely or irmly against the loop 12 of the webbing.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In Suspenders, the combination of a slide having two loops, a clamp mounted on one member of one of said loops, and a suspender webbing passing downwardly through one of said loops and then upwardly through the same loop, the two thicknesses of webbing being disposed between the clamp and the opposite member of said loop, and the end of the webbing being passed downwardly through the other loop of the slide and held by the latter closely against the loop formed by the two Erst-mentioned thicknesses of webbing, said end of the webbing being left free and unobstructed.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM FREEMAN.
Witnesses WILLIAM C. RIEDEL, GERALD ScHULTz.
