To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VILLIAM Sonnrnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inr'Garment- Supporters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to an improved garment supporter andhas for itsprim'ary object to provide a simple, effective and durable device for supporting mens and boys7 undergarments.

It is another and more particular object of the invention to provide a supporter for the undergarment which may be easily and quickly attached or removed and can be employed either when abelt or Suspenders are worn. y

lt is one of the more specific objects of the invention to provide adeviee for the purpose above stated, consisting of a body plate having a headed stud thereon, a resilient clamp or fastener loosely connected at one of its ends to the body plate having opposed portions adapted to clamp the material of the garment against opposite sides of the stud shank, and means for detachably holding the other end of the fastener in connection with said plate.

lith the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Fig. 3 is an elevation showing one end of the resilient fastener or clamp detached from the body plate.

Referring in detail to the drawings, 5 designates the body plate of my improved supporter which is preferably constructed of aluminum and of elongated form. This plate is bentupon itself in spaced relation to o-ne of its ends, as shown at 6, to provide the clamping tongue 7 extending in approximately parallel relation to the body of the plate. Adjacent to the bend 6 of the plate, laterally projecting ears 8 are formed upon the opposite longitudinal edges thereof, said ears being apertured, as at 9.

Adjacent to the other end of the plate 5, a stud or shank 10 is securely fixed thereto and projects from one face ofthe plate. The end of this stud is formed with a circular head 11.

Thev clamp or fastener is formed from a single length of resilient wire which is bent intermediate of its ends to provide a' spring coil 12 therein and arms 13 normally eX- tending in divergent relation from said coil. The terminal of one of the arms 12 has an eye 1T formed therein which is engaged through the aperture 9 in one of the ears 8. The other of said arms has its terminal angularly bent as at gage'ment through the aperture 9 in the other ear 8.

In the use of my improved supporter, the clamping hook 8 on the end of the plate 5 is engaged over the upper edge of the waist band of the trousers, as clearly seen in Fig. 1, the body portion of said plate extending downwardly upon the inner side of the trousers and between the same and the waist band of the undergarment. The fastener being disconnected from one of the ears 8 as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, said fastener is engaged over the inner side of the upper edge of the undergarment and one of the arms 13 is disposed upon one side of the stud 10. The other arm 13 is then forced inwardly against the opposite side of the stud over which the'material of the undergarment is engaged, and the angularly extending terminal 15 of said arm forced inwardly of the ear 8 on the body plate so that when pressure on the arm is released, the angular end thereof will be projected outwardly over the aperture in said ear, as will be readily understood. Thus, the un.- dergarment will be securely clamped or fastened to the body plate 5 and properly supported with respect to the trousers. Any desired number of these garment supports may be used, but preferably two are employed in front and two at'the back. The use of my improved fastener in no wise interferes with the use of the usual trousers supporting belt or Suspenders, as may be preferred the wearer.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use and several 15, `for detachable en= advantages of my invention will be clearly and fully understood. The device, while eX- ceedingly simple, is very effective and reliable in practical use and highly serviceable and convenient. I have herein referred to the invention as particularly designed for supporting' mens undergarments, though it will be manifest that the supporter may be subsequently employed for various other analogous purposes.

vWhile I have shown and described the preferred form and construction of the several features of the device, it is to be understood that the invention is susceptible of considerable modification therein and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

A garment supporter including a sheet metal body plate having an attaching hook formed on one end and ears angularly projecting from the longitudinal edges of the plate adjacent to said hook, a headed stud fixed in the plate adjacent its other end, and a clamping member formed from a length of resilient Wire centrally bent to provide normally diverging arms, one of said arms having terminal means loosely and pivotally connected to one of the ears on the body said clamping arms being plate, said arms being adapted to clamp a garment against opposite sides of the headed stud and the other arm having terminal means for detachable engagement with the other of'said ears when the arm is forced toward the first named arm, whereby the arms are held in clamping engagement with the garment.

2. A garment supporter including a body plate having an attaching hook formed on one end, a headed stud projecting from one face of the plate adjacent to its other end, said plate being provided upon its longitudinal edges with opposed apertured ears, and a clamping member formed from a single length of resilient wire having a spring coil therein intermediate of its ends and clamping arms normally extending in divergent relation to each other from said coil, one of permanently and pivotally connected to one of the ears, said arms being adapted to clamp the garment against the opposite sides of said stud and the other clamping arm having its terminal angularly disposed for detachable engagement through the otherof the apertured ears.
