, the clothing to support the garment in position and especially to the clasp or fastening for engaging the garment.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, convenient, reliable and comfortable device of the kind described,-:adapted to secure a positive grip upon the garment with out cutting or injuring the fabricxzand of such formtha-t its use will causeno inconvenience or discomfort to the wearer.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, andmore particularly p'ointedout in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings wherein like or simlla'r reference characters ii-ndlcate anddisen'gaglngthe clasp. In the preferred like or corresponding parts I Flgure 1 is an elevation ofmy showing the same 1n service.
Fig. 2 is an enlargedfrontelevation device my device showing the clasp open and theparts su-fliciently separated to clearly show the construction. a P
Fig. 3 is a rear view of my device showing the clasp closed or in locked position.
Fig 4 is an enlarged section taken substantially on line 44 of Fig. 3;-
In the drawings for the purpose of illu's-- tration I have shown my improvement as a {hose supporter in which the clasp for engaging the hose consists of a member 1 formed of any suitable material having a lever 2 pivotally attached to its upper end;
The lower end of the member 1 is preferably semi-circular in form with a part 3 bent up at the front to form a semi-cylindrical pocket at the lower margin of the clasp. A resilient part 4 is pivotally attached to the free end of the lever 2 adapted to cooperate with the walls at the lower end of the member 1 to engage a garment. In the preferred construction the part 4: is formed of a suitable resilient wire having its extremities bent or otherwise suitably formed to engage the sockets or eyes 5-5 upon the lever 2.
The" central portion of the wire is formed to accurately it-within the pocket at the lower end of the member I and with portions 66 at each side ofthe supporteradapted to serve as springs andpermit a slight resili encybetweenthe. curved portion 4 and the Patented Oct; '9, 1917.
end of the lever 2 to accommodate garments of different thicknesses. The pivotal .connection 7 between the lever and member 1- is so positioned th-atwhenz the member 4 is positioned in thepocket S andthe-free end of the lever 52 force'ddown to force the member L-into-the pocket,-the eyes 5 will pass I the weight of the same and provide ventila-.. tion' and also to afford convenient access to the. back side of the handle 10: for unlocking construction a plurality of slits 12-12lfl'fi6 provided near the .margin' of the member 1 adapted toreceive a suitable band or-rib-- bon 14 to serve as a backing for the clasp and prevent 1 the metal I of the clasp coming into contact with "the body of the wearer. A; transverse barlio is also provided upon theJmemFber 1: adjacent; the hinge 7 .for at-- taching a band or strip 16 to the clasp to support the same in position and in the preferred 'form the ends of the ribbon 14 are positioned adjacent the bar 15 and inclosed in the loop of the band 16 thus forming a smooth neat finish to this portion of m device.
Any suitable means may be provided for supporting my device in position. As shown a metal loop 17 is provided at the upper end of the band 16 and a connector 18 engages the loop at one end and its opposite end is permanently secured to the lower portion of a-girdle 19 or other convenient garment. In the preferred construction the connector 18 is substantially triangular in form with thebase of the triangle secured to the girdle and is apex to the clasp. The triangular connector is preferably formed of any desired number of elastic strips sewed or otherwise attached to the lower portion of the girdle at the desired intervals and converge toward the clasp. The object of this arrangement is to insure a substantially uniform downward pull upon the girdle and to accurately position the clasp upon the hose when in service, thus avoiding discomfort due to the unequal strains otherwise, upon the girdle and upon the hose.
Having thus described my improvement it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of my invention, hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form of construction shown.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garment supporter comprising a member having a semi-circular part at one end and with the margin of said curved part bent over to form a semi-cylindrical channel, means attached near the opposite end of said member for supporting the same, a resilient part adapted to enter said channel and cooperate with the semi-circular walls thereof to engage a garment,- and means pivotally connecting said member and part adapted to control their relative position.
2. A garment supporter comprising a member having a semi-circular part at one end and with the margin of said curved part bent over to form a semi-cylindrical channel, means attached near the opposite end of said member for supporting the same, a part formed of resilient wire adapted to enter said channel and cooperate with the semicircular walls thereof to engage a garment, and means pivotally connecting said member and part adapted to control their-relative position. g I
3. A garment supporter comprising 'a member having a semi-circular part at one end and with the margin of said curved part bent over to form a semi-cylindrical, semi- Copies 0t this patent may be obtained for circular channel, means attached near the opposite end of said member for supporting the same, a resilient part adapted to enter said channel and cooperate with the semicircular walls thereof to engage a garment, and rigid means connecting said member and part adapted to control their relative position.
4. A garment supporter comprising a member having a semi-circular part at one end and with the margin of said curved part bent over to forma semi-cylindrical channel, means attached near the opposite end of said member for supporting the same, a resilient part adapted to enter said channel and cooperate with the semi-circular walls thereof to engage a garment and means rigidly connecting said member and part and pivotally attached to each adapted to control their relative position.
5. A garment supporter comprising a member having a semi-circular part at one end provided with a central opening and with the margin of said. curved part bent over to form a semi-cylindrical channel, means attached near the opposite end of said member for supporting the same, a part formed of resilient wire adapted to enter said channel and cooperate with the walls thereof to engagea garment and a rigid lever pivotally connecting said member and part adapted to control their relative position, the free end of said lever extending over said central opening 1n the 'member when said supporter is in an engaging posi tion whereby said lever may be manually operated to release'said supporter through said opening.
