MOSES M. STURM AND JOSEPH SILVERSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HOSE-SUPPOFETEH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 10, 1906.
Application filed December 21,1905. Serial No. 292.780.
T0 ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Mosns M. STURM and J osnrn SILVERSTEIN, sub ects of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at New York,
in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HoseSupporters, of which. the following is a specification.
The present invention pertains to improvements in garment-supporters, and most particularly to a gripping device for such supporters or garters; and it has for its object to provide a simple gripping device which can be easily adjusted to the garment to hold it securedly without tearing the fabric.
To accomplish this object, our invention consists in the arrangement, construction, and combination of parts, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference-letters denote corresponding parts, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment-supporter; Fig. 2, a vertical section through line so a of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a detail section through line at r of Fig. 1, enlarged.
In the drawings, a is the base portion or member, comprising a cut-out or slotted frame, which carries at its upper end a loop 6 for its attachment to the elastic. The frame is curved forward and is at its lower end flattened to form a downwardlyprojecting jaw 0. At the upper portion the frame a is provided with cars at d, that are perforated to receive a bar or pin 6. f is the second member. The same is formed of a single solid piece and has also at its upper portion perforated ears 9 g to receive the bar or pin 6, the latter forming a pivotal connection between the two jaws. The lower end of the second member f is bent rearward and passed through the slot a of the base member a. It has a bend or offset h toward the base member and forms a jaw that corresponds in shape with the aw c of the base member.
1' is a spiral spring that is wound around the pin and has one end projecting and abutting against the member a, and the other against the second upper member of the gripping device. This spring has the tension to normally press the jaws c and it against each other, so as to grip the part of the garment placed between them.
The jaw c is provided with an aperture j, the edges of which are indented, as at Ya. In this aperture a rubber knob Z is fitted, which has at its rear a flange m, entirely covering the back of the jaw. From three outer edges of the jaw c clasps a project, which are bent over the flange m. These clasps a and the indentations 7c serve to secure the knob in its position within the aperture of the To prevent the clasps from pressing on the body of the wearer, the central part of the flange m is somewhat thickened, forming a cushion 0, which will project rearward and having its outer surface level with the outer surfaces of the clasps. The second jaw f is provided with an aperture p, which is adapted to fit over the forwardly-projecting knob Z and engage the part of garment or hose slipped between the knob Z and the second jawf.
In pressing the members a and f together their aws are opened to receive the stocking edge or the like, which on releasing the same will be gripped between the rubber knob of the jaw c and the aperture of the jaw h by the spring '1).
It isunderstood that some changes may be made in the various parts of the construction by those skilled in the art without deviating from the spirit of our invention.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A gripping device for hose or garment supporters, comprising a slotted or cut-out base member, the lower portion of which is curved outward, a loop at the upper end thereof for its attachment to the elastic, a flattened jaw at its lower end, a second mem ber pivoted to the said base member, and curved rearward to pass through the slot of the base member, a recess in the jaw of said second member, a rubber knob fitted in the said recess, indentations in the edges of the latter, clasps projecting from the edges of the said jaw and bent over the back of the knob, both the indentations and clasps serving to engage the knob and secure it in its position, a recessed bend or offset at the lower end of the said second member forming a jaw of a corresponding shape as that of the base member, a spring between the two members tend ing to press them away from and their jaws against each other, substantially and for the purpose as specified.
2. A gripping device for hose-supporters or the like comprising a recessed or slotted base member and a second member pivoted to the latter, the lower portion of the second member projecting rearward through the base member, the lower extremities of both members being flattened to form. jaws, and recessed, a rubber knob in the recessed jaw of back of the knob, substantially and for the the upper member, said knob projecting forpurpose as specified.
