Be it known that I, FRANK W. LowE, of Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in lliair-Wavers, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention relates to that class of devices which are used for the purpose of causing curls and waves in the hair, and more especially to that class of devices in which the hair is wound about a frame and held in place by an elastic or similar means, for the purpose of accomplishing the above result. The elastic generally employed with devices of this character are the common endless elastic, they being connected to the end opposite that over which the elastic is caught. Unless provision is made forsecurely holding the elastic in place it is likely to slip to one side.

The object of my invention is to improve the means for connecting the ends of the wire of which the frame is made, and, in thisconnection, to provide means whereby the elastic may be conveniently and securely attached thereto. 1 accomplish this object by the means shown in the accompanying drawing, in which, 7

As shown in the drawing a continuous wire frame is provided which comprises two parallel, or approximately parallel side portions a, b, bent at approximately right angles at one end to provide projecting abutments c, d, and then semicircularly to provide end portions e, f, which extend toward each other, the ends of said portions e,f, extending about opposite sides of an eyelet g and being fastened together by pressing the sides of the eyelet thereagainst, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The opposite ends of the side sections a, b are bent inwardly to form a loop h, the sides 'L, j, of which extend in a direction nearly parallel to the sections a, b, said loop terminating a short distance from the eyelet g, so that an elongated open slot m is provided, which extends from one endof the frame to a point adjacent the opposite end. An elasticn is looped into the eyelet g, as shown, said eyelet thereby serving as a convenient means of attaching the elastic and holding it in place as well as means for connecting the ends of the wire.

In use, a strand of the. hair is first wound about the frame so that the coils extend from the abutments c, d, to any point on the frame opposite the slot m, as indicated in Fig. 1. The elastic n is then stretched so that its loop may be passed into the open end of the slot m, permitting the same to be drawn tightlyagainst the coils.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A hair waver composed of a continuous wire frame bent to provide a pair of longitudinal sides and an intermediate longitudinally extending open slot therebetween, the terminal portions of said wire extending transversely at the opposite end of the frame from the slot opening, and an eyelet about the opposite sides of which said terminal portions are bent, said eyelet being clamped thereon to connect the same, andan elastic loop connected to said eyelet, substantially as described.
