Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1906.
Application filed November 23, 1904:. Serial No. 234,074.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID R. RosEBRoUoH, a citizen of the United States,residing at Casey, in the county of Clark and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clothes-pins; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and efli cient device which will securely hold clothes to a line.
My invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device as applied to a clothes-line. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective View; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a wire which is bent at its longitudinal center forming a V-shaped portion A, which is slightly concaved longitudinally. The strands of the wire which are thus bent form a V-shaped portion, and said strands flare at the ends of the V-shaped portion and are bent at angles to each other, as at B, and downwardly curved and provided with parallel portions. The straight parallel portions of the strands of the wire are twisted together, as at D, while the parts of each strand adjacent to its end are out-- wardly flaring and turned laterally into eyes at their ends;
In applying my clothes-fastener it will be observed that the twisted portion cooperates with the loop A and is slightly flexible, adapted to hold the clothes against a clothes-line in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, thereby making a simpleand eflicient device which may be readily applied and removed from a line.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A clothes-fastener comprising a wire which is bent at its longitudinal center forming a V- shaped shank portion, the opposite strands forming the longitudinal edges of which are slightly curved, the strands of wire at the flaring ends of said V-shaped portion being curved away from said V-shaped portion and having parallel portions which are spaced apart a short distance, thence twisted together, and flaring arms extending over the strands forming said V-shaped portion and the extreme ends of said arms laterally bent and turned into eyes, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID R. ROSEBROUGH.
