PATENT OFFICE.
EMILE MINETTI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLOTHES-LINE FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 794,728, dated July 18, 1905. Application filed April 20. 1905. Serial No. 256,519.
To (i1/ZZ whom it may con/cern:
Be it known that I, EMILE MINETTI, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
' My invention relates to an improved clothesline fastener-that is, a device to be employed in connection with clothes-lines whereby the tying and untying of the ends of the rope or line may be avoided-the object being to provide a device of this character which shall be simple and economical to manufacture, cfcient in use, and so constructed and arranged that a clothes-line, cord, rope. or cable may be easily and readily secured thereto and the length adjusted thereby.
Vith these and other ends in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim. i
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View in perspective of my device. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, partly in elevation and partly in section, showing the manner of attaching the rope or cord thereto. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 4 an end view thereof.
My improved fastener may be constructed of wood, metal, or other desired material, the body consisting of the two plates or sides 5 6, preferably of the shape or outline as illustrated in the severalfigures of the drawings, and between the restricted ends of which is secured the block 7, preferably grooved, las illustrated at 8, for'the reception of one end of the rope or line 9 and to which it is tied, as illustrated in Fig. 2. Through the sides 5 and 6 passes the pin 10, in which is mounted the pulley or wheel 1l and on which it rotates, said pulley being grooved, as at 12, for the reception of the opposite end of the rope 9. At the extreme end of the widened portion of the body is formed the V shaped groove 13, dividing the body into the two ends secured the bent hook 20.
14 15. In the end 14; is formed the hole or opening 16, through which the rope 9 passes prior to being passed around the pulley 11, and in the end 15 is. formed the V-shaped groove 17 at right angles to the former groove 13, said groove17 subdividing the end 15 into the ends 18 19. To one side of the body is In practice one end of the rope or cord 9 is tightly secured to the block 7, the rope passing in between the restricted ends of the sides 5 and 6, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The opposite end of the rope is passed through the opening 16 in the end 14 of the body, then around the pulley 11, then through the V-shaped groove 17 into the V-shaped groove 13, and out of said latter groove around said hook 20. By means of this arrangement of the several parts it will be seen that any strain on the rope 9 will have the tendency to pull or force said rope more deeply into the V- shaped grooves 17 and 13, and thereby more tightly and securely bind or fasten the rope to the device.
' When it is desired to lengthen or shorten the rope, it is simply necessary to first release it from the hook 2O and remove it from the two V-shaped grooves, whereupon the rope will be free to slide over the pulley 11.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the device is exceedingly simple in conistruction and arrangement, can be manufactured at a small .00st, is reliably efficient in use, and may be easily and readily manipulated.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A clothes-line fastener comprising a body' formed of two plates, the restricted ends of which are secured to a block located between them, and to which block is secured or'fastened one end of the cord or rope, a pulley located between the widened portions of said plates and rotating on aspindle secured to said plates, the opposite end of said body being provided with a V-shaped groove dividing said body into two ends, one of said ends being provided with a longitudinal opening and the other of said ends with a V-shaped groove at New York, this 19th day of April, A. D. right angles to said former groove and sub- 1905. dividing said ends into two ends, and a book secured to the side of said body, substantially EMILE MINETTI' 5 as described. Witnesses:
