APPLIOATION FILED 00119, 1905.

ROPE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14, 1906.
Application filed October 19, 1905. Serial 110.283.514.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KARL W. NILssoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for holding the end or ends of ropes,
cables, and other flexible connections.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable, and inexpensive device of' this character, by means of which the end or ends of a rope or the like may be securely held, so that it will be unnecessary to tie or knot the same.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In'the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved ropeholder, showing the same in use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device or holder with the rope removed, and Fig. 4 is a similar view of the opposite side of the device.
My improved rope holder or fastener 1 consists of a block or single piece of metal, preferably of oblong or rectangular form, as shown. At one end of this block or body is formed a transversely-extending opening or eye 2, in which one end of a rope or similar flexible connection 3 may be fastened by tying the same in a knot, as shown, or in any other suitable manner. Recesses 9 are here shown at the ends of the eye 2 to receive the rope. At the opposite end of the body 1 is formed a similar transversely-extending opening or eye 4, which is adapted to receive one end of a rope or similar flexible connection 5, which may be the opposite end of the rope 3. This eye or opening 4 is formed at the inner end of a substantially semicircular groove 6, which is formed in and extends around said end of the body 1, and is adapted to receive the rope 5, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings. Formed in the central portion of the body, immediately above the opening or eye 4, is an angularly-extending transverse groove or slot 7, which is also adapted to receive the end of the rope 5, as shown. This groove or slot 7 is of wedge shape or V-form in cross-section, so that it is wide on one side and narrow upon its other side, and its side walls also converge from their outer to their inner ends. The inner end of said slot at its widened side communicates with one end of the eye 4, as at 8. This construction permits the end of the rope 5 to be wedged tightly in said groove after it has been wrapped around the end of the body in the groove 6, so that the rope 5 will be se curely retained upon the body and cannot slip when it is drawn upon. It will be seen that the rope 5 may be very uickly and very easily applied to or removed om the holder, and it will be unnecessary to further tie or knot said end of the rope.
The device may be used at any place where it is desired to tie or fasten one or more ends of a rope, and it is particularly well adapted for use in hanging clothes-lines, fastening tent-ropes, and the like:
The device is of simple, strong, and durable construction and may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost. It may be malde of any size and of any suitable materia From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described rope-holder comprising an oblong block having means at one end to enable it to be attached to a rope, the groove 6 at the opposite end, the eye 4, the ends of which communicate with the ends of said groove, said block being further provided in one side with the laterally and longitudinally extending slot 7 the sides of which converge longitudinally toward the eye and also converge laterally toward one side of the block, the longitudinally-narrowed end of said slot having its laterallybroadened side in communication With one end of the eye and its laterally-narrowed side spaced from the opposite end of the eye.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
