Description

(No Model.)
ROPE HALTER. I I No. 370,346. Patented Sept. '20, 1887.
/ INVENTOR fltfprney v .To all whom, it may concern.-
Nrrs STATES PATENT rinse.
JOHN C. LYNCH AND JACOB A. PETTY, OF SYOAMORE, OHIO.
ROPE HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 370,346, dated September 20, 1887.
Application filed Apr-i121, 1887. Serial No. 235,858.
Be it known that we, JOHN C. LYNCH and J AOOB A. PETTY, citizens of the United States of Arnerica, residingatSycamore,in the county of XVyandot and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope Halters; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rope halters, the object of the same being to provide suitable attachments wherebya single piece of rope can be formed into a halter, and when so formed can be adjusted to suit different sizes of live stock; and with the above end in view our invention consists in the particular construction and combination of the parts, as will be here inafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate our invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a halter constructed in accordance with our improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail view of one of the parts of our invention, which is attached to the end of the rope forming the halter. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the loops,
' and Fig. 4. is a perspective and end view of another one of the loops.
A refers to the halter, which is made of a single piece of rope by the use of the attachments shown in the accompanying drawings. The attachmentB, which is attached to one end of the rope a, is provided at one end with a side piece, b, which is semicircular in crosssection, said portion 7) having projecting therefrom strips 12, which are adapted to be bent and clamped upon the end a of the rope, so as to hold the double eyes B, which are formed on the opposite end of the shank, securely thereto. The eyes at the end of this shank are separated from each other by a bar, b". The portion B is preferably made of a suitable casting, and the arms b thereon are malleable,
so that they may be bent and clasped upon the rope.
(No model.)
0 refers to a casting, which is constructed so as to form eyes 0 c, said casting being formed or bent so that the eyes will be at substantially right angles with each other.
D refers to a casting which consists of two oblong eyes, d d, which are connected to each other by a central port-ion, d, which is preferably wedge-shaped in cross-section,- and at the center of this wedge-shaped portion d extends an angular portion, d. The eyes d d of this casting D are preferably formed or bent so as to be out of line with each other, or at an obtuse angle, as shown.
To form ahalter with the attachments hereinbcfore'described, the portion B is first attached to the end of the rope, as hereinbefore described, and a loop is formed thercin, which loop is passed'through the oblong eyes of the casting D. One end of this loop is then passed through the eyes of the portion 13, and from thence through one of the eyes 0, through the loop hereinbefore referred to, and then through the other eye 0. By this construction a halter can be provided from a single piece of rope, and the eyes of the attachments will bite or jam upon the rope, so as to prevent the parts slipping.
By providing the portion D with a wedgeshaped center, from which projects an angular portion, the rope will be pressed against the ends of the eyes and jam, so as to form a bight and prevent the rope from slipping.
By constructing the double eye 0 so that said eyes will be located at substantiaHy right angles with each other, a space is provided within which the end of the looped rope will lie, and will be held in place by the rope which passes through the eyes and over the loop portion.
We claim-- 1. In combination with a rope halter constructed substantially as described, a casting, D, having oblong eyes, and a wedge-shaped connecting portion, d, having an angular projecting portion, (1, formed on the central part thereof, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. A halter constructed of a single length of rope with attachment B, having a transverse loop divided by a cross-bar, attachment D, having two elongated loops arranged side I the other eye of attachment 0, substantially [0 by side with an interposed wedge-shaped bar, as described. 7
and an attachment, 0, consisting of two eyes In testimony whereof we affix our signatures connected by a shank bent at substantially in presence of two witnesses.
right angles, the rope being connected at one JOHN C. LYN OH.
end to attachment B, and a loop passed JACOB A. PETTY. through attachment D, the free end passed Witnesses: thencethrough one eyeof attachment O,thence A. E. BENNINGTON,
through theloop of the rope, and finally through THOMAS CARLIN.
