Description
(ModeL) E. HANRAHAN.
Trace Carrier.
No. 231,314. Patented Aug. 17,1880.
Y I T 5359, v v INVENTUR;
7 ATTonm-zvfi UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD HANRAHAN, OF I/VELLSVILLE, NEW YORK.
TRACE-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,314., dated August 17, 1880.
Application filed April 7, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDW'ARD HANRAHAN, of Wellsville, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Carriers, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in both the figures.
This invention relates to trace-carriers; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be herein after fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
As illustrated in the annexed drawings, my improved trace-carrier consists, essentially, of a ring, A, which is provided with loops or d buckles B B on opposite sides, for the attachment, respectively, of the back strap and erupper-strap; but, if desired, the latter may be connected to the back strap in anyother suitable manner.
The ring A is provided near its edges with two longitudinal parallel cross-bars, O 0, above and adjoining which are arranged springs or spring-bars D D, one of the ends of which is free, while the other end of each is secured to the ring A. Between these spring-bars, project- (ModeL) ing toward the center of the ring, are two hooks, E E, arranged opposite to each other, as shown.
In operation the tie or hitching strap is inserted between the rigid parallel bars 0 O and spring-bars D D, by which it is wedged and held firmly in place until it may be desired to remove it.
If desired, the cockeyes may be adjusted upon the hooks E, and there being two of these hooks they admit of the carrier being used on one side of the harness only, and at the same time enable it to carry both the traces. For example, it it is attached to the harness on the outer side of the off horse the inside trace can be hooked on the upper hook E by laying the trace over the back of the horse, while the other (outside) trace can be hooked conveniently upon the opposite or lower hook.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- A trace-carrier composed of the ring or frame A, provided with loops or buckles B 13, parallel inside cross-bars, O O, spring-bars D D, and hooks E E, constructed and arranged substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD HANRAHAN.
