l UNITED STATES THOMAS L. RIVERS,
APATENT OFFICE. v
OF MOUNT VERNON, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES B. LINDSEY, OF SAME PLACE.
HAME-TUG.
n SPECIFICATION forming pari'l of Letters Patent No. 297,634, dated April 29, 1884.
. Application filed December 28, 1883.
To @ZZ whom it may concern/.1
. Beit known that I, THOMAS L. RIVERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Jefferson and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Haine-Tug, of which the following is a specification, rcference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to hame-tugs; and it has for its object to/provide a device of this character which shall be cheap and simple in its construction and thoroughly efcient in its use.
rIhe invention consists in the improved con struction and combinations of parts herein;
after fully described, and" pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view,in perspective,of the plate connecting the hame-tug with the trace; and Fig. 4 is a rear perspective view of one of the hametugs detached.
A represents two of my improved hametugs, connected by a link or loop, B. Thesaid tugs each consist of the top portion, a, having formed therein a rectangular slot or opening, b, and a slightly smaller rectangular slot or opening, b, the same communicating with each other by means of ya longitudinal slot,b'l,which forms an inwardly-projecting lug, b3, the same limiting the longitudinal play of the tracecatch when connected thereto, as will be more fully set forth. These hame-tugs A are formed with inwardly-projecting flanges c on each of their sides, and with hooks vor catches d upon their inner Sides and near their ends. Upon these hooks or catches .d are attached the connecting-links B, for connecting the tugs when a series of the same are used, the end hookor catch, d,being attached to the loop or ring in the hame. The hame-tu'gsare formed upon their front sides with re-enforcing-strips e of the same form as the slots b b,.and having the openings to correspond thereto.
C represents the trace-plate, which is secured to the trace by rivets or other ysuitable fastenings passing through the perforations in said plate. The trace-plate is formed. upon its under Side, and near the opposite end from (No model.) I
the perforations c', with an inwardly-projecting lug, D, which may be said to approximate a' T shape in cross-section. rlhis lug D is adapted to be inserted through the opening or slot b, and is then slid or passed through the slot b2 into the slot or opening b', where it i-s securely held against disengagement or displacement, thus securing a rm and secure fastening between the hame-tugs and the trace ,Y of the harness.
My improvements are applied in the following manner As many of the tugs are used as is necessary, and the same connected by the Aloops or links B, the end hook of one of the tugs engaging with the ring or loop upon the hame. The trace may then be attached to the tugs by inserting the lug which is formed upon tudinal movement of the trace will be overcome.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. The combination of a series of hame-tugs, having rectangular slots, hooks, or catches formed upon their inner sides, and with reenforcing strips, said tugs being connected by links engaging with the hooks upon the under sides of said tugs, with a trace-plate having an inwardlyprojecting lug formed upon its inner side, substantially as set forth. Y
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a haine-tug having the slots or openings b b', communicating with each other by means of inner sides with hooks, and provided upon their outer sides with re-enforcing strips, in combination with aplate, C, formed with the lug D, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim theforegoing as `Iny ownv I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
, THOMAS L. RIVERS. Witnesses:
WILLIAM H. GREEN, FRANK WILBANKS.
