UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
ARTHUR F. PINE, OF SYLVAN LAKE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN R. JOHNSON, OF SAME PLACE.
HAMEcouPLlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,129, dated February 6,1894. Application filed May 23, 1893. Serial No. 475.258. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR F. PINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sylvan Lake, in the county of Langlade and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Hame-Ooupling, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hame couplings, and has for its object to provide means for readily attaching and detaching the tug or trace to a hame, the parts thereof being sim ple and effective in their construction and operation, strong and durable, easily and readily applied and cheaply manufactured.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective View of part of a hame, showing the improvedcoupling in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the bolt of the coupling disconnected therefrom and to one side of the same.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both igures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a hame of any preferred form of construction, having a' clip-plate 2 mounted thereon and embodying an outer plate 3, that bears against the outer side of the hame, and an inwardly-projecting flange 4, having a straight bearing-surface to closely engage the back of the hame and thereby requiring only a single bolt 5 to secure the clip in place, and which is adapted to be engaged by a nut at the back or inner side of the haine.
Extending rearwardly from the clip-plate is a pair of arms 7, having aligned openings therein, and in which is removably mounted a bolt 8, having a head 9, with a circumferential groove 10 thereon. The bolt 8 is removablyinserted through the loop or other means of attachment at the front end of the trace or tug, which is movably confined between the arms 7, and in the circumferential groove of the head of said bolt is mounted a loop 14,
formed at the upper end of a spring-clasp 12,.
which has an intermediate coil 13 to impart resiliency to the said clasp, and at its lower .end has another loop 14, which removably engages the lower projecting end of the bolt 8. The loops 14 are formed on the ends of divergent arms 15, and in disengaging the bolt 8 the lower loop is drawn downwardly and released from the lower end of the saidloolt,
-thereby permitting the latter to be readily vention.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is- In a hame coupling, the combination with a hame,ol` a clip-plate having an inwardly-proj ecting flange and rearwardly-projecting arms Witnesses:
