HALTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 24, 1912.
Patented Mar. 3, 1914.
Serial No. 673,152.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOGAN CURTIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Browns, in the county of Edwards, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in rope halters.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a halter constructed from a single length of rope in such a manner as to permit of the halter to be readily adjusted to fit animals heads of different sizes.
Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable throat latch of novel construction.
A further object of the invention is to provide a halter of the character described, which is extremely simple in construction, is capable of being readily applied to or detached from the head of an animal, and is cheap to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings: the figure is a perspective view of a halter constructed in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the drawing, the halter is formed from a single length of rope 5, and this rope is interwoven intermediate its ends to form a resultant loop 6. One end of the rope extends from this loop to form a nose strap 7, and the strands at the end of the nose strap are drawn to form a plurality of loops 8. This strap extends beyond the loops 8 to form a jaw strap 9, and the strands adjacent. the end of said strap are able form. The other end 01: the rope beyond the loop 6 forms a head strap 12, this strap passing through the loops 8, thence extending through the loop 6, and thence through the loops 10 and terminates in a hitching strap 13. It will thus be observed that the nose strap, head strap and jaw strap may be readily adjusted to accommodate animals heads of different sizes.
In order to prevent the head strap from accidentally slipping over the head of the animal, there is provided a throat latch 14 which is formed from a single length of flexible material, such as rope or the like. This throat latch is centrally interwoven with the head strap, and is provided at one end with an attaching eye 15. In order to adjustably connect the ends of this throat latch, there is provided an adjustable connecting element which is designated as a whole by the reference numeral 16.
WVhat is claimed is:
A halter comprising a length of rope looped to form a head stall and cheek pieces continuous with said head stall, the end of said rope forming the lower termination of one of said cheek pieces being designed to form a guide loop, that portion of the rope continuing from the other cheek piece being disposed through said guide loop to form a lead rope, and a portion of the rope forming a nose loop having the strands at one end thereof interlocked with the strands of the first mentioned cheek piece adjacent its lower end, said nose loop having the strands thereof adjacent the opposite end designed to form guide loops for the second named cheek piece for adjustability on the latter, and that portion of the nose loop continuing from said last mentioned guide loops being designed to form an operating shank for the nose loop.
In testimony whereof, I ailix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
LOGAN CURTIS.
Witnesses:
JOHN R. CURTIS, LOREN A. Gnsson.
