Description

J. KUB.
ROPE HALTER. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 29.1917.
iNVENTOR ATTDRN EY JOHN KUB, OF LOYALTQN, SOUTH DAKOTA.
ROPE HALTER.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 22, 119th.
Application filed June 29, 1917, Serial No. 177,751.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that- I, JOHN Kola, a citizen of the United States, residing at Loyalton, in the county of Edmunds and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope Halters, oi? which the following is av specification.
This invention relates generally to harness and particularly to a halter made of rope, the greater portion being formed of a single piece looped and connected together at certain points and to a supplemental piece which completes the article. The object of the invention is to form a halter entirely of rope, the ends of which are provided with clips and adjustable connections to enable the halter to be applied to and removed from the head of an animal and adjusted to fit heads whether largeor small.
With the above as the principal objectin view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the halter showing the position of the same when in use. and
Fig. 2 is a. detailed. view showing an ad justing means for varying the size of the halter.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing. the head stall and one of the cheek pieces 11 is formed of a single strand of rope. the forward end of which is connected to a. metal clip 12 that is clamped around the end of the rope on which clip is formed an eye 13 for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth. The opposite end of the strand of rope which terminates the head stall at the side of the animals head opposite the cheek piece 11 has a sleeve 14 slidably mounted thereon :trom'one side of which sleeve projects a boss 15 through which is threaded a screw 16 pointed on its inner end to penetrate between the strands of the head stall 10 and having an eye 17 on its opposite end.
The remainder of the halter is formed of a second strand of rope, one end of which is spliced at 18 to the first strand at the junction of the head stall 10 and cheek piece 11. Passing from this splice downwardly, the rope forms the throat latch 19 and at a point which would come below the head of the animal, the rope passes through a hitching ring 20 and then extends upwardly into a large loop forming the nose band 21. The rope then passes through the eye 13 on the end oi the cheek piece 11 and downwardly pass mg again through the hitching ring 20 and across itself, it is entwined with the throat latch a short distance in rear of the hitching ring 20. The rope is entwined as stated at 22 by inter-engaging the strands thereof thence upwardly the rope forms the throat latch 23 on the opposite side of the halter. At a point opposite the splice 18 a small loop is formed in the rope, which engages a swiveled snap hook 24L that is designed to be connected to the eye 17 on the sleeve 14 ad.- justably mounted on the head stall. From the loop 25 the second cheek piece 26 extends downwardly to the nose band 21 to which it is connected through the medium of a clip 2'7 attached to the end of the cheek piece and having an eye 28 through which the nose band passes.
In use, the halter is adjusted to the size of the animals head by loosening the screw 16 and sliding the sleeve 14 thereon to the proper position. after which the screw is again forced between the strands of the rope of the head stall to prevent movement of the sleeve. Then, placing the nose band in position on the animals head and the head stall ehind his ears the eye 17 and snap hook 24 are brought together and fastened. The check pieces prevent the nose band from falling over the mouth. of the animal while the hitching ring 20 is freely slidablc on the rope and any attempt of the animal to move the halter will be pr vented by the ring 20 sliding forward and clamping the rope under the jaw of the animal.
I claim:
1. A halter cranprising cheek pieces, a head stall, a throat latch, and a nose band and made of rope, one piece forming the head stall and a cheek piece. a second piece of rope forming the remainder of the halter. a clip on one end of each piece of rope forming the cheek pieces connected to the nose band. and a disengageable connection connecting the throatlatch with the head stall.
2. A. rope halter comprising cheek pieces, a head stall, a throat latch, and a nose band formed of two strands of rope, one of said strands forming the head stall and a cheek piece, a clipon the end of the check piece and an adjustable sleeve on the end of the head stall. the other strand of rope forming the second cheek piece, the nose band, and both sides of the throat latch and having one end spliced to the first piece at the junc- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature tion of the head stall and cheek piece and its in presence of two Witnesses; other'end provided With a clip, said clips connecting the cheek pieces to the nose band, JOHN and a disengageable connection between the 'Witnesses:
throat latch and the adjustable sleeve on the A. L. BERG,
head stall. G. I. WARNER.
