COMBINATION ROPE AND STRAP HALTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 8, 1908.
Patented June 1, 1909.
Serial No. 437,278.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES N. MoGLIN- TOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rigdon, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new carries an outstanding lower end 12 of which is clamped to the nose band 6.
The connecting member comprises a flat body portion 13, the lower end of which ear 1%, having an and useful Improvements in Combination opening formed through it for connection ing is a specification.
This invention relates to harness and has specially in view a novel type of combined rope and strap halter.
With the above and other objects in view the invention contemplates the employment of a single length of rope which is looped to form cheek pieces, nose band, and throat latches, the upper ends of the cheek pieces being provided with novel forms of coupling and clamping members which hold the same in engagement with an adjustable head stall formed from a leather strap.
In carrying out the invention changes in details and structural arrangement may be resorted to, a preferred and practical em bodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the halter showing the same in use. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the coupling member which connects the fixed end of the head stall with one of the cheek pieces. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the other coupling member which retains the ad justable end of the head stall in engagement wi 11 the other cheek piece.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts. I
in the embodiment of the invention shown in the accompanying drawings, a length of rope is employed which is extended upward to form a cheek piece 1, the upper portion of which has a permanent loop 2 formed in it and carries a clamping member 3 (to be referred to in detail later). From said loop 2, the rope extends downwardly and rear wardly to form a throat latch 4, through a 5, thence laterally looped to form a nose band 6, one side of which is permanently clamped to the lower end 7 of the cheek piece 1. From this point the rope is extended rearwardly andthrough the oppo site side of the hitching ring, then upwardly forming another throatlatch 8, the upperportion of which has a permanent loop 9 which engages with a connecting member 10 (to be referred to in detail later), and then down- Wardly forming another cheek piece 11, the
i 1 1 i l l 1 sides resting on the flange rope forming cheek pieces,
Hope and Strap Halters, of which the follow- 1 with the loop 9 at the junction of the throat 11. The other .13 is upturned through which an the looped end 18 atch 8 and the cheek piece end 16 of the body portion to provide a flat flange 16 opening 17 is formed for of a head stall strap 19.
The clamping member 3 carried by the looped end 2 of the cheek piece 1, comprises a fiat body portion 20, the lower end of which carries an outstanding, downwardly inclined strap engaging hook 21, the base of which has an opening 22 ormed through it for engagement with said looped end 2. An outstanding, and preferably downwardly inclined flange 23 projects from opposite sides of said base, said flange serving as a guide, or rest, for the adjusting end 24 of the headstall strap 19, as will presently appear. The upper end 25 of the clamping member is upturned to form an outwardly extending fiat flange 26. The intermediate portion of said end 25 is cut away to provide an opening 27 for the adjusting end 24 of the head stall strap 19.
It will be understood that the connection between the cheek piece 11 and the head stall is a fixed one, and that the connection between the cheek piece 1 and the head. stall is an adjustable one, which permits of the halter being used for different sizes of animals. The adjustable connection is made by passing the end 24 of the head stall through the opening 27 in the clamping member, and any of the openings 28 formed in said end may be selectively placed in engagement with the strap engaging hook 211, with its 23, as is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
From foregoing description it will be un derstood that the improved combined rope and strap halter is one that can be readily attached to an animals head, and as the rope portion of the halter and the strap portion are held in an adjustable relation, the halter in its entirety may be readily adjusted for animals of various sizes.
Claim.
A halter consisting of a single length of throat latches,
I ing for engagement with the cheek piece, and
an upturned flange carried by one end of said I body providedwith a guide opening for the end of the head stall. 15
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES N. MCOLINTOCK.
