NICHOLAS BAYUK, 0F ivrnsnnn, MINNESOTA.
CLOTHES-PIN.
weenie;
Application filed May 1, 1916.
To all "whom it may concern-i Be it known that I, NICHOLAS BAYUK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mesaba, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to il'nprovenients in clothes pins and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character produced from ,a single length of material, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved clothes pin which will operate with a maximum of efliciency in clamping clothes or other articles upon a line.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arran ement of the several arts of m im- 2: .Y
proved clothes pin whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a clothes pin constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the device as herein disclosed.
As herein embodied, my improved clothes pin is produced from a single length of wire of requisite gage and is bent intermediate its length to form the substantially parallel strands 1, the connected portions of said strands 1 being formed to afi'orda loop'2. The free end portions of the strands 1 are returned, as indicated at 3, with the free end portions thereof twisted one about the other, as at 4, said twisted portions being positioned intermediate the inner extremities of the strands 1 and terminating in the laterally disposed and oppositely directed eyes or clips 5 embracing the strands 1 in close proximity to the loop 2 and it is preferred that Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 27, 1917. Serial N o. 94,7451.
each returned portion 3 be secured to the strand of which said returned portion is a continuation. By engaging the extremities of the wire upon the parallel strands as shown, the loop 2 is held against opening or spreading movement, and the strands 1 also braced or reinforced at their juncture with the loop.
Each. of the strands 1 and its returned portion 3 afford a clamping jaw and in order to facilitate the -application of the pin into applied position, it is preferred that the con neoting bends between the strands 1 and returned portions'8 be arranged in divergence, as is clearly indicated in the accompanying drawings, and to have the intermediate portions of said strands 1 and returned portions 3ofiset outwardly, as indicated at 6, to afford seats adapted to receive the clothes line as is believed to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains.
It is also to be observed that the divergence of the connected portions between the strands 1 and returned portions 3 is afforded by having the outer end portions of said strands 1 and returned portions 3 inwardly bowed as indicated at 7.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a clothes pin constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
As an improved article of manufacture, the herein described clothes pin consisting of a length of wire bent intermediate of its ends to provide a single finger loop therein, said wire having portions extending in spaced, parallel relation from said loop and ent to provide elongated, laterally bowed, opposed clamping loops normally in Contact of the wire with each other the end portions of the wire being extended from the latter loops in convergent relation and between said parallel portions of the wire, said end portions being twisted upon each other and the extremities having oppositely projecting eyes formed thereon engaging the respective parallel portions of the wire at their juncture with the finger loop to prevent the opening of said loop.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. NICHOLAS BAYUK.
Witnesses:
C. AKWINDLE, W. J. RUTHERFORD.
