PATENT OFFICE.
ORMOND S. WHITE, OF WILKES-BARBIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PACKAGE-TIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application filed December 6. 1906. Serial No. 346.611.
Be it known that I, ORMOND S. WHITE, a citizen of g the United States, residing at Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package- Ties; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved package or shawl tie.
The object of the invention is to provide a shawl or package tie whichis simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and which may be quickly applied, and when applied will not slip or become unfastened.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a package with this improved tie applied; Fig. 2 represents-a perspective view of the tie detached; and Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of a package with this improved tie applied, showing one cord only connected therewith.
In the embodiment illustrated, a package 1 is secured by this improved tying device 2. The tying device 2 consists of the usual approximately U-shaped bail 3, composed of stiff wire, having a gripping portion. 4, preferably made straight and provided with a loosely-mounted hand-grip 5 of wood or other suitable material. The ends of this bail 3 are coiled to form upright, packageengaging and cord-clamping members 6, 7, the coils being arranged parallel with the side members or legs, as 8, of the bail but at right angles to the-plane common to said latter members, with the peripheries thereof adapted to engage the package to which it is i Y applied. The arrangement of the coils at right angles to the handle permits the cord or cords to be passed around the package at right angles to the hand grip, thereby form ing a reliable tie,- and one which may be quickly applied. l
A cord, as 10, is preferably secured to each coil 6 and 7, and when securing the package, the bail is placed thereon with the peripheries of the vertically-disposed coils bearing on the package and each cord 10 is then passed transversely around the package or at right angles to the bail, then drawn between the coils and then again passed around the package and drawn into the coils a second time, whereby it is tightly held.
' 15 is attached at one end to one of the coils, for instance, the coil 6, then passed transversely around the package, then drawn into the coil 6, then passed diagonally across the package and drawn into the other coil 7, then passed transversely around the package again and again drawn into the coil 7.
I claim as my invention,- A package tie composed of an approximately U-shaped bail having its ends bent to said bail and at right angles to the plane of said bail, and flexible binding elements attached to said coils at one end and with their other ends adapted to engage the coils.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ORMOND S. WHITE.
