Description

Dec. 27, 1932. J. JACOBS 1,892,575
HAIR CURLER Filed Sept. 10, 1932 Patented Dec. 27, 1932 UNITED STATES fO'FF'I CEtlQ JOSEPH JACOBS, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT,; ASSIQNORTO THE HAYE-DONAHUE MANUFACTURING 00., INCL, OF MILFORD, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION HAIR CURLER Application filed September 10, 1932. Serial No. 632,475.
This invention relates to an improvement in hair curlers, and particularly to hair curlers which include a central loop through which hair may be passed and upon which hair is wound, with end portions adapted to 11 together, so that the wires may slide longitudinally with respect to each other so as to lengthen or shorten the loop and correspondingly shorten or lengthen the end portions, and the invention consists in the construction I as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a hair curler constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of one end of the device, showing a clasp fixed to one end of one member and the othermelnber passing through the clasp;
Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the clasp, detached.
In carrying out my invention, Iemploy strips or strands 10 and 11 preferably of bendable metal covered with non-metallic material 12. Secured to one end of the wire 10 is an S-shaped clip or clasp 13, one edge being provided with teeth 14, whereby it may be rigidly clamped to the covered wire, the other portion of the clamp forming an eye 15 through which the other Wire 11 may pass.
Firmly secured to one end of the wire 11 is a similar clip or clasp 16 through which the end of the wire 10 may pass, forming a loop between the clasps with end members extending beyond the clasps.
These devices are used in the customary way of curlers of this character, that is, a tress of hair is placed in the loop between the clasps and wound upon the wires; then the end portions are bent over. onto the hair thus rolled so as to retain the same. i
By drawing the wires 10 and 11 outward, it shortens the length of the loop between the clasps and increases the length of the end portions, and vice versa, by pushing the wires inward and spreading the clasps, the loop is elongated and the end. portions shortened.
This curler can be produced at a very low cost for manufacture and is as ellicient in use as more expensive curlers.
I claim: 1. A hair curler comprlsingjtwo separate strips of bendable metal covered with non- V metallic material and lying adjacent and laterally of each other and extending longitudinally of each other, a clasp firmly fixed to on end of each strip, said clasps each having an eye through which the other ends of the strips extend, whereby the clasps may be moved toward or away from each other by sliding the strips longitudinally relatively to each other.
2. A hair curler comprising two strips lying adjacent and laterally of each other and extending longitudinally of each other, and slidably connected together and adapted to'slide bodily longitudinallyrelatively to each other, the slidable connection comprising a first means extending from adjacent one end of one strip and slidable on the other strip, and a second means extending from adjacent the opposite end of said other strip and slidable on said one strip.
3. A hair curler comprising two strips lying adjacent and laterally of each other and extending longitudinally of each other, and slidably connected together and adapted to slide bodily longitudinally relatively to each other, the slidable connection comprising a first clasp secured to one strip adjacent one end thereof and slidable on the other strip, and a second clasp secured to said other strip adjacent the opposite end thereof and slidable on said one strip.
4. A hair curler comprising two strips lying adjacent and laterally of each other and extending longitudinally of each other, and slidably connected together and adapted to slide bodily longitudinally relatively to each other, the slidable connection compris ing an S-shaped first clasp secured to one strip adjacent one end thereof and slidable on the other strip, and an S-shaped second clasp secured to said other strip adjacent the opposite end thereof and slidable on said one strip. V v
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
JOSEPH JACOBS.
