1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to hair curlers and more especially to curlers applied by the user rather than by a. professional hair dresser.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive hair curler of the character described.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved hair curler incorporating simple clamping features such that the curler can be easily applied.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel hair curler that is substantially flat and which may be retained in position without discomfort overnight or while sleeping.
Other objects and advantages will appear and the following specification considered with reference to the accompanying drawing throughout which like parts are designated by like numerals.
In the drawing: v
Figure 1 is a perspective, view showing my invention in use.
Figure 2 is an illustrate view showing a number a of curlers of my invention in use. Figure 3 is a face view of a my invention.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 showing a modified form of the invention.
Figure 5 is a side view of the Figure 4 shown in closed position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing and especially to Figures 1 and 3, I show a preferred form of my invention comprising a wire l0 bent or formed into a pair of primary loops H and I2 invention of and a secondary loop l3 and having end portions l4 and I5. Wire I0 is continuous, as shown, and a portion thereof, as at I8, is common to both loops II and I2, end portions l4 and I! being wound around portion 18, forming small coils l7 constituting in effect ahinge or pivot construction together with portion [6, which is bendable.
A wire system l8, preferably of finer wire than 4 wire In, is strung or wound as by coils 19 to and across loops ii and i2 and forms a-framework providing a plurality of openings 20 and serves as a retainer for the curl of hair when held by the curler. Loop 18 is seen as being formed by .wire I at one edge of loop I I and at the opposite side from portion I6 and is adapted to be bent I! when in the curl holding preferred form of II. The curler when in curl holding position, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, is substantially flat and a number of the curlers can be applied to I the hair of the head, as shown in Figure 2, and will not be uncomfortable to the user, as when the user is resting or sleeping.
' In Figures 4 and 5, I show a modified form of my invention. In these figures a pair of flat elements 25 and 26, which may be of any suitable, substantially rigid material, such as metal, plastic or the like, are hinged or pivoted together at 21 and each has an open framework 28. Member 25 is shown as having a clasp 29 for engaging the pin 30 or other complementary clamping element, whereby the members 25 and 26 may be held in detachable clamping position when holding a lock'or curl of hair therebetween. The invention, according to Figures 4 and 5, functions substantially similarly to that of Figures 1 to 3, the action of hinge or pivot 2'! being similar to that of the twist or bend afforded by portion l6 of wire l0.
Although I have herein shown and described my invention in what I have conceived to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is recognized that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of my invention, which is not to be limited to the details disclosed herein but is to be accorded the full scope of the claim so as to embrace any and all-equivalent devices and systems.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A hair curler, as described, comprising in combination a pair of substantially flat, net-like elements adapted to be arranged in overlapping position, and means for clamping said elements together with a lock of hair therebetween, said I elements including a common wire frame adapted to be bent to permit positioning in overlapping arrangement.
