H. HOFFMAN BOBBED HATR HOLDER AND ROLL Filed Dec. 19. 1.922
l m QM Patented Nov. 20, 1923.
UNITED STATES HATTIE HOFFMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ROBBED-HAIR HOLDER AND ROL L.
Application filed December 19, 1922. Serial No. 607,790.
To all whom it my concern. 7
Be it known that I, HA'I'IIE HOFFMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bobbed-Hair Holders and Rolls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toilet article, and more particularly to a hair roll or form.
The prlnci al object of the'invention is to provide a evice of this kind for securely holding and forming the short or bobbed ends of hair against the head of the wearer to give the appearance of a solid roll or pull of the wearers hair.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hair form so constructed as to exert a tensional grip or hold on the hair regardless of the amount of hair, and which will not easily get out of position.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds; and while herein details of the invention are described, the invention is not limited to these, since many and various changes may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the accompanyingdrawing, showing by way of example one of many possible em bodiments of the invention, Fig. 1 is a perspective of the roll or pull from the rear.
Fig. 2 is an outside or back plan elevation of the clasp in closed position.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the clasp.
Fig. 4 is a sectional side elevation of my device, on line 1-4: of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is an outside or back plan elevation of the clasp in disengaged position.
Fig. 6 is an end view of the hook end of the clasp. I
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that my device comprises a form or rat 10, Fig. 4, and also shown in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3, which ma be made of hair, cloth, wire, or any suitab e material, and of any desired form or size to suit the wearer. As this form is to be used to roll the ends of bobbed hair on, it is obvious that the diameter of the form or rat will depend largel upon the length of the hair to be rolle Where the hair is ver short the form must be small in diameter in order that the ends of the hair may be concealed. This form may also be made lengthwise straight or curved to fit the particular part of the head to which it is tobe applied, as the entiredressing of the head comprises a plurality of my forms.
A rat holder in the form of a clasp, comprises a head conformable support formed of a single piece of wire bent to provide two parallel curved members 15, having at one end eyes 16 and at their other ends oppositely (positioned hooks 18 facing each other an at right angles to said eyes 16. The hook connecting portion of said sin le wire is bent outwardly and then inwardly continuing the curve of said members 15, to
form a convenient elastic band attaching point 20.
A hair clamping and form-engaging member, made of a single wire, is bent to provide two parallel curved clamping members 22, disposed parallel to each other and to said members 15, each portion 22 however being slightly back of and outside of members 15. The portion of clamping member wire connecting members 22 is bent at right angle to members 22 and passes through eyes 16, thereby ivotally engaging with members 15, and is bent again between eyes 16 outwardly and then inwardly to form another attaching point 25, and to kee members spread in proper position. he free ends 28 of members 22 are engageable in the hooks 18. v
When it is desired to use my device to roll up short bobbed hair to give the appearance of a puff or roll of the wearer s own hair, the clamping members 22, free, are passed through the form or rat 10 lengthwise. The rat and clasp, opened, are then placed between the head and the ends of the wearers hair with the back part of the form to the wearers head and the members 22 then hooked into the hooks 18. The form and clas are then rolled inwardly and upwar 1y a half-turn when the ham ends will be concealed and the rat and clasp will conform to the head.
An elastic band, or ribbon, or braid of hair, 30, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4 may then be attached to points and passing on the outside of the hair to hold the roll in position. Pins,of course, may be used in place of the band 30. In most instances, however, when the device is placed in position it will not easily become displaced because cf its head-engaging form.
a vice attached to said member for ho ding the ends of the bobbed hair upwardl pointin and concealed behind said mem er and said intermediate portion to form a roll of less than one convolution; and means secured to the form member and extending around the outside of said intermediate portion for holding said form member and roll in place.
2. In combination, a hair puff form; a clasp comprising 'a head conformable por tion and a clampin member adapted to engage said pufi an said head conformable ortion to tension-ally hold the short end of obbed hair therebetween; and means for holding said puif form and bobbed hair against the head of the wearer to give the appearance. of a roll of the wearers own hair.
3. In combination, a. hair form; a clasp emme cooperatin therewith comprising a headcgnformab e support made of a single piece of wire bent to provide two parallel curved .body portions having at one end eyes and at their other ends oppositely positioned hooked portions facing each other, the hookconnectmg portion of said wire being bent outwardly and inwardly. in the same curve as said parallel body portions; and a clamp made of a single piece of wire bent to provide two parallel curved compressing members having free ends adapted to be engaged in said hooks and disposed outside of said curved body portions, the compressingmembers-connecting portion of said clamp wire being1 bent at right angles thereto and passing t in the same curve as said bers. v
