Description

Aug 25, 1925. Y 1,551,160
7 NNNNNN OR G'harles Law/e ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 25 1925.
UNITED STATES CHARLES LAUFE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Application filed June 11, 1924. Serial ire/719,291.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES LAUFE, a citizen of France, residing at New York city, in the county of the Bronx and State of New York, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in vieware: to facilifate the operation of waving womens hair; to protect the scalp during the operation of curling while using heated implements; and to simplify and cheapen the construction.
Drawings.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a comb of the character mentioned constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention. V
Figure 2 is a pictorial view illustrating the manner of using the comb when employing the same for assistance in the operation of waving the hair.
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the comb in service position at the termination of the operation of curling the hair.
Description.
As shown in Figure 1, the comb teeth are :m bent midway of their length to form what is here termed the back sections 8 and the points 9. The back 10 of the comb is preferably solid.
As seen in the drawings, the back section 8 and the points 9 are bent to approximately perpendicular relation. When it is desired to hold the hair, or a wisp thereof, out to the position shown substantially in Figure 2 of the drawings, the points 9 are turned downward and passed under the hair, forming a bench-like support for the, free ends of the hair. In this way'the hair is spread so that the jaws ll of a curling iron may be clamped thereover, the iron and comb being moved in opposite directions in a plane parallel with the layer of hair. The result of this action is to wave the hear. When it is desired to curl the hair, the comb is disposed as shown best in Figure 3 of the drawings, the points 9 being turned upward. The curling iron 11 is then rolled into the inner angle formed by the section 8 and the points 9, the points 9 preventing the iron or heated roll being pressed against the scalp or ear of the person.
It will be understood that the comb can be made from any suitable material.
