Description
5mm @sind E. S. BELTON, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA. j
' Letters Patent No; 87,621, dated M01/rch 9,1869.
TOY.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, E. S. BnL'roN, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented a new 'and improved Toy BallEjector; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved toy, for the amusement of children and others; and
It consists of a cup, or mortar, having a handle for holding the mouth ofthe cup upward, in which a piston is arranged for suddenly ejecting a ball from the cup into the air, as will be more fully described, on reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein a sectional elevation of my improved toy is represented.
A represents the cup,' which lis preferably bellmouthed, and may be made of Wood, or any other material, having a hole through the bottom, and secured to the handle B in any suitable manner.
The said handle is boredaxially, and the hole in the cup is arranged to coincide with the said bore, which is provided with a piston, G, connected by a rubber or other spling, D, to the bottom of the said bore, and
having a constant tendency to hold the piston down to :the bottom thereof.
By suddenly pulling the cord downward, the piston.
will be thrown up with suiiicient violence to eject' the ball G, or other article, from the cup -into the air a considerable distance. i
The ball may be caught, on its descent, in the cup again, or in the. hand, and be restored to the cup.
The piston may be arranged to bethrown up by a spring, and be drawn down against the spring by the hand, and the oord and pulley be dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the cup A, handle B, and piston G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A toy ball-ejector, substantially such as herein described, as a new article of manufacture.
itnesses E. S. BELTON,
