TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, JOHN E. HAWKINS, of Lansingburg, in the county of Rensselaer, vand State of New York, have invented a new and/improved Toy; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of -said improved tojy, and

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same- The same letters having reference to like parts in veach of the said figures.

My invention consists in the -combination and arrangement of certain parts, in manner substantially as hereinafter fully described', which constitntea toy, and by means of whicha ballii's projected upward therefrom, which 'in its descent is caught by the said toy. i Y

v'lo enable others skilled in the -art to make my new and improved toy, I now proceed to fully describe thesame, as follows: l

A, figs. 1 and 2 of annexed drawings, ,is a stock orhandle, which is perforated from end to end, or through its length. Arranged and moving freely within this perforation, is a spindle or rod, B. Attached to the upper end or top of this spindle, is a ball-driver or pocket, C; the ytop oi' the aforesaid stock or handle A being hollowed out or made concave, to permit the convex under side of said ball-pocket or driver to fit properly into The bottom end of said spindle is provided with a driving-knob or button, F. Airixed to the top of the aforesaid stock A, is'a cup, D, which encloses and rises in a -arng form above the 'aforesaid balldriver or pocket C. This cup D may be made ofwire, tin, or of wood, and of a variety of forms or shapes.

vThe foregoing-described parts, combined-and -arranged in manner substantially as shown in the annexedl drawings, constitute my improved or `new to'y forv projecting balls upward. l

E is a ball, made of wood or of other. suitable substance, and it is used with the said toy in Amanner as follows: The toy lis held by its stock or handle in a vertical or upright position in one hand. l The ballE is thon placedin the cup D, and on the ball-driver or pocket C. A quicklrap or tap ofthe other hand is now inside or given on the driving-knob or button F, which drives the spindle and ball-pocket C upward, thereby causing the ball E to iiy or project ont of said pocket C upward, which, in'its descent, is caught in the cup D, in readiness to be again projected upward, as before,
