T() ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
'Be it knownthaty 1PHILIP ELY, of the city, county, and State of New York-.have invented a new and improved vSteam Motor for Toys; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others sk illedin the are to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is aside sectional view o'fmy' invention, taken in the'line :v 9;, fig 2.

This invention relates to a simple and economicalsteammotor for operating toys, and consists of a peculiar' adaptation of themost ancient rotary engine (Heros) for that purpose.
A represents a lamp, alcohol or other material being used in it. This lamp may be constructed in any proper manner, and it has a vertical rod, B, tted centrally in it.- C is the boiler, whichmay be constructed ot' sheet metal and of conical form. This boiler is provided with a concave bottom, in the centre of which is a.. conical projection, b, which receives the pointed end of the rod B', and' supports or forms thel bearing for the boiler, so-that it may rotate freely thereon, directly over thelarnp A, as shown in fig. l. To the upper part oft-hc boiler .tlierelnre attached one or moreA tubular horizontal arms'D, which communicate with it. These arms are of bent or curved form, as shown clearly in'g. 2, and it will'be seen that when the boiler is suppliedl with water and the lamp A lighted, vsteam will bev generated n the boiler C, and escape through the arm or arms D, and by'reaction in its passage through D, rotate the boiler, from which any revolving toy, E, may be driven by a. belt,l F. In fact, toys having various movements may be operated by this motor. The' device may be very cheaply constructed, and will form a very'amusing and instructive toy for children.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent#- The revolving boiler. C, provided at the centre of its concave bottom with a conical projection, b, which is fitted on the rod B, forming the bearing for the boiler, and having atits upper end the arms D, and adapted to bear the strap or band F, by which motion is communicated to the 4toy E, as and for the purpose described.
