Leners Patent No. 87,424, dated March 2, 1869.
IMPROVED. MODE 0I' FASTENING- TRUSSES.
EQ-mm... The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making Part of the same.
To all whom it mel/y conce/rn:
Be it known that I, RICHARD MCGEE, of Martinsville, in the county of Morgan, and in the State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Truss; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and AeXa'ct description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures `of reference marked thereon.l
The nature ofthe invention 'consists in the peculiar construction ofthe fastenings of the truss. Said truss to 'be made of leather, elastic web, and any convenient metal, brass or iron.
To enable others to use my said invention, I-proceed to describe it more fully, as follows:
Figure l, of the accompanying drawings, is a view of said device.
' A and B are two leather straps, joined together by K and K are two brass plates. On the opposite side of the strap are two metal knobs,-represented by K and K', of Figure 2 of the .said drawings. To these knobs are riveted the plates K and K, through the strap B.
In the middle ofthe plateK isa knob, h, to be used as hereafter described.
At A, H, and I, are convenient button-hles, Ifor properly adjusting the device.
'Io use the truss for a case of rupture, the knob K is'put in such a position that it will cover and close the rupture. The strap A O B is then passed round the waist above the hips, so that the button-holes atra may be fastened on the knob h. The thongsF H and I G are then passed between the legs and buttoned on the knobs h, so that they will have-a little downward tension. The resulting strain ofthe web at duce a gentle and yielding, but firm and constant press` nre on the rupture, and by reason of the peculiar shape of 'the device, it will lie closely and secu ely on the body, and in no way impede the iee m tion of the lower limbs.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v The plates K and K, the knobs K' K',-the knob h, and the button-holes A, H, and I, when the same are constructed, arranged, and -used for the purpose, and
l in the way. substantially as hereiuset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing specification, I have hereunto set my hand, this 11th day of September, 1868. v
RICHARD MGGEE. Witnesses:
WILL. W. WALLACE, CEAS. WERBE.
