Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
SOLON DIKE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRUSSES AND SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70,324, dated October 29, 1867.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLO DIKE, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Truss and Supporter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
Figure l in the annexed drawings, which make a part of this speciiication, represents a perspective View of my truss. Fig. 2 is a side view of one of the pads. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the pad when reversed.
My invention consists of an elastic band, B, passing around the pelvis and attached to the body-brace C, as shown in Fig. l. C represents a flexible body-brace, and is composed of leather, cloth, or other iiexible material.
d d are two pads placed on the inner surface of brace C. These pads may be adapted in form to the nature and size of the rupture, and are made'adjustable to suit all kinds of rupture. The pads are confined to the brace C by small screws, which pass through the metal plate g, as seen inl Fig. 3. To the surface of plate g the buttons e are attached, the said buttons being designed to enter the loops h, which are at the ends of band B, and thus hold said band in position.
By this arrangement the brace C can be shifted from one button to another to suit the l ruptured part. As the band B is elastic, it
'will enable the wearer to regulate at all times ythe pressure upon the wound, and the pressduce the upward pressure on the Wound.
This invention is for the relief and cure of hernia and falling ofthe womb. Its peculiar advantage consists in its ability to hold a rupture perfectly at all times and under all positions in which the body can be placed. The brace is perfectly adapted to hold the womb in its proper position, and to take all the weight of the upper abdomen from an undue pressure upon the lower abdomen, thereby relieving the patient from the pains in the side and small of the back so common in. all cases of displacement of the womb.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The flexible bodybrace G, provided with the adjustable pads el d, arranged in combination with band B and strap A, substantially in the manner set forth, and for the uses and purposes herein described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own l affix my'signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SOLON DIKE.
Witnesses T. H. ALEXANDER, GILBERT. PULLEN.
