FRIEDRICH MEINE, OF LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS.v
HERNIAL TRUSS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 8, 1908.
Application filed September 10.1907. Serial No. 392.171.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH INIEINE, citizen of the United States, residing at La Grange, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hernial Trusses, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to hernial trusses and has for its object to provide an improved and effective device of the kind, for the purpose of securely retaining a double or single hernia.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a top view thereof. front view.
In the drawings, 1 indicates a metal plate of proper size and shape for the intended purpose and which is padded on both sides with soft material as indicated at 2 and 3. On the front side thereof this plate is provided with spring steel loops i and 5, of which the former is the longer and is located above the latter. The springs are riveted to the plate at the middle, as indicated at 7, 8 andll, and the bowed ends are riveted to the plate as indicated at 6, 9, 10 and 12. On the loops of the steel band 4 are riveted buttons 13 and 14, and on the loops of the steel band 5 are riveted buttons 15 and 16, these buttons being located respectively at the opposite ends or loops of the springs. The metal plate 1 is also providedwithbuttons 17 and 18. Straps 19 and 2O are connected to the buttons 13 and 15 and 14 and 16 respectively. These straps 19 and 20 pass through loops 21 sewed to the main belt 22 which extends around the waist. These straps 19 and 2O are provided with several button holes as indicated at 23 and 24 so that the belt may be made short or long as necessary. The straps 19 and 20 are connected by loops 25 to straps 26 and 27 which are connected by buckles 23 and 29 to the main belt 22, the buckles being xed to the main belt and the straps being adj ustably secured in the buckles.
A pubic strap 31 extends under the front Fig. 2 is a of the plate and is connected at its opposite ends to the buttons 17 and 13, and this strap may be made adjustable by the use of several button holes, and the middle part is lined or covered with a strip 32 of annel or similar material. The truss also has perineal or leg straps 33 which extend respectively from the buttons 17 and 18 to buckles 35 connected to the belt 22 over the hips. These straps 33 cross each other, that is, one extends from the button 17 on one side to the buckle 35 on the other, and the other strap extends from the button 18 on one side to the buckle 35- on the other. y
The metal plate 1 is bent or hooked over at the lower corners, as indicated at 36 and 37, to hold the strap 31 in proper place or position. The truss is completed by the pads 38 and 39 which press on the hernias as usual. By means of the plate and connecting straps shown the truss will be retained securely in proper position and will effectively support same, a pubic strap attached at its opposite ends to the plate and suspended across under the same, and projections on the plate engaging the strap on opposite sides, below the points of attachment, to hold the same in position.
2. In a truss, the combination of a front plate and pads, spring strips attached at the middle to the front of said plate and extending across the same and curved and attached at the ends to the plate to form bows at opposite ends and a belt connected at its opposite ends to said bows respectively.
3. In a truss, the combination of a front plate with pads on the ba'ck or inside thereof, upper and lower springs on the front of the plate at each side thereof, and a belt having upper and lower straps at each'end connected to said springs.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH MEINE.
