FRANCIS J. HAGE, SR., OF GOLDSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA.
HERNIAL TRuss.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent No. 716,221, dated December 16, 1902.` Application filed August 31, 1901. Serial No. 73,968. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern,.- i
Be it known that I, FRANCIS J. HAGE, Sr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Goldsboro, in the county of Vayne and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trusses, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates generally to trusses,
and more particularly to certain improvements upon Patent No. 671,999, granted to me April 16, 1901.
The object of the present invention is to provide a double truss, or one intended for both sides; and another object is to provide for certain adjustments whereby an averagesized truss can be made to fit any person.
With these objects in View my invention consists in the peculiaroonstruction of the several parts and in their novel combination or arrangement, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forminga part of this specification, Figure l is a view showing the prac-` tical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail of one of the waist-strap extensions. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the crotch-strap extension. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating the connection between the loops and extension-straps, and Fig. 6 is a j `detail perspective view showing the manner to, said bandage having the waistband sections B Banddepending portions BB. Each section B has a short loop C attached thereto,
`said loop carryingtwo elongated rings D and E, to which the extension-strap F is`con,
.nected. Thestrap F is passed through the elongated ring D, then doubled upon itself and passedthrough the elongated ring E, and one end of the strap F is fastened to aA `slide G, while the other end passes through the said slide and carries a metal loop H, which is intended to engage a button I, fixed upon the bandage A. As before stated, each section B is provided with these extensionstraps, and in use said straps are carried around the waist in opposite directions about the hips, crossing each other upon the bandage, which is placed upon the abdomen, and are passed around the thighs and the end brought up through the crotch and fastened to the buttons I, as most clearly shown in Fig. 1. The depending crotch-sections B B are also provided with similar extension-straps K K, said straps carrying buttonhole-tabs L L, which are fastened upon buttons M M, slidably attached to the waistband-sections B B. The straps K Kare passed down through the crotch, up at the rear, and buttoned to the waistband sections, as just described.
4Guide-loops N N are attached to the bandage at each side for the purpose of guiding the extensions B B when they pass around the waist and over the hip.
By having the straps F F and K K connected, as described, and provided with slides I am enabled to adjust the said straps so as to make them longer or shorter, as needed, and in this way I can adjust my improved truss so that it can be made to fit any person, large or small.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A truss comprising a bandage having waistband and depending crotch sections, ad-
l the bandage, buttons slidably arranged. upon the waistband-sections, loops carried upon the ends of the adjustable straps, the ends of the waistband extensions being connected to the bandage, and the ends of the crotch eX- tensions being connected to the waistband at the rear, substantially as described.
2. In a truss, the combination with the bandage having waistband and crotch sections of then short loopattached to the end of each section, the elongated rings carried by said loops, the adjustable straps passing through the elongated rings and having a slide at one end and a loop at the other end, the buttons fixed upon the bandage, and the buttons movable upon the waistband-section, the ends of the waistband extensions being connected to the bandage, and the ends of IOO the crotch extensions being connected to the waistband at the rear, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a truss, a bandage having two Waistband-sections, a loop carrying rings attached to each section, an extension-strap secured by said rings to each of said loops, the free ends of said straps being adapted to engage buttons secured to the bandage-section, similar extension-straps secured to the crotch- Io sections, their free ends adapted to engage buttons attached to the waistband-section, and means for adjusting the length of said straps.
