' B. JOHNSON.
HOSE SUPPORTER. APPLICATION FILED AUG.25.1905.
n Inbev/01 PATENTED JUNE 26, 1906.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specication of Letters Patent.'
Patented June 26, 1906.
Application filed August 25, 1905. Serial Nol 275,838.
To all whom, it vnay concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the Jfollowing is a full, clear, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to means for supporting hose, and is more particularly adapted for the use of children and young girls; and it consists of a combined shoulder-brace and hose-supporter whereby the stocking may be suitably supported at the same time that the shoulder-brace is held in proper position.
It is usual to support stockings in osition by bands attached to a belt encirc ing the waist; but for children, before the development of the hips, this arrangement is not very serviceable, as it is difficult to sustain the belt without making it too tight. With many forms of shoulder-braces, more particularly those of the figure-8 type, there is no, or not sufficient, means provided for holding them in position, so that they are very apt to shift out of place. It is to obviate both of these difficulties that my invention is directed; and it consists of that certain novel construction in combining the shoulderbrace with the hose-supports to be hereinafter particularly pointed out and claimed.
In the drawing, the gure is a perspective view of my improved shoulder-brace and hose-supporter.
1 is the webbing forming an ordinary figure-8 shoulder-brace with a central portion 2, preferably formed by folding the web of the brace and stitching, so as to leave short ends 3 3, to which are secured the loops 4 4, the other ends being brought around to go over the shoulders, pass through the loops 4 4, and are adjustably secured by the adjustment-buckles 5 5, so that the brace may be lengthened or shortened, as desired.
6 6 are bands of elastic webbing rovided with any suitable clasp at the ends or securing to the stockings. I have shown in the drawing one of the ordinary clasps consisting of the button 7 and the metal loop 8, with contracted end for locking the stocking between the button and the loop; but any other construction desired may be used. These elastic bands 6 6 are loosely run through the loops 9 9, through which loops the supporting-web 10 is also loosely passed, thus securing the two together. The ends of this supporting-web 10 are looped over the shoulderbrace straps 1 and are secured to the web by the adjustable buckles 11 11, so that the length of the supporting-web may be adjusted as desired, while the middle portion of the supporting-web slides through and is supported by the loop 12, secured by the tab 13 to the central portion 2 of the shoulder-brace. By thus looping the supporting-strap overl the shoulder-brace web the loops readily adjust themselves in proper position under the arms, while the web of the shoulder-brace is gatheredor folded lengthwise, so as to obviate any friction of the brace under the armpits.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a hose-supporter, straps to brace the shoulders, with bands to support the stockings loops thereon loosely engaging the bracestraps under the arm portion, whereby the stocking-supports may adjust themselves in position under the arms, lsaid supports being also suspended from the central portion of said brace-straps.
2. In a hose-supporter, straps to brace the shoulders and a continuous band with its ends looped loosely over the shoulder-straps under the arm portion and a loop on the central portion of the shoulder-braces through which the continuous band passes, with supporting devices for the stockings secured to said band.
3. In a hose-supporter, the combination with a figure-8 shoulder-brace, of a hosesupport consisting of a continuous band with its ends looped loosely over the shoulderstraps under the arm portion, and a loop on the central portion of the shoulder-braces vthrough which the continuous band passes,
with supporting devices for the stocking secured'to said band.
4. In a hose-supporter, straps to brace the shoulders and a continuous band with its ends looped loosely over the shoulder-straps under the arm portion and a loop on the central portion of the shoulder-braces through which the continuous bandpasses, with supporting devices for the stockings and loop for securing same to said band.
