Letters PatcntNo. 97,643, dated DecemberV 47 1869.
V.iivirncvzmaar 1N I'As'rrmives :ron cosnv'rs.
The Schedul referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the samer Be it known that I, LUDWIG JAncHow, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and `improved Corset-Fastening; and I do 4hereby declare the following 4to be a fnll, clear, and exact description thereof, which ,willenable those skilled in lthe artic. make `and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming partof this specification, in which drawing-'L Figure 1 represents a plan of this invention, show-` ing the fastening `attached to the'corset-springs.` i Figure 2l is a detached plan of the fastening, on a larger scale than the previous figure. v
Figure a side elevation of the same.
Figure 4 is a transverse section of the same, the
` lines w :l: and y y, inV fig. 2, indicating the planes of section. A
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. 4This invention relates to `a corset-fastening, which is composed of a flanged triangular button, anda correspondingltriangular socket, said button and socketA heingformed in such a manner, that they lock the two ysprings of acorset firmly together. against a strain,.
transversely to the length of said springs, while the button vis free tommove in the socket a short 4distance in the direction of the length. of said springs, whereby vthe spreading ofthe leaves composing such spring is obviated, and :the covering of said springs `is saved from injury, which it sustains if the leaves are liable to spread.
Inpthe drawing-'- l The letter A represents the socket, and the letter B, the triangulariianged button,'composing' my corset-fastening j f The socket'A is secured to a base-plate,a, which is perforated with holes to receive rivets, for the purpose df attachingfit ,toene of the springs O, and said socket is open ast-its inner, and closed at its outer end, as shown in g. 4, .and it is so formed that it freely admits the buttgn B.
,'lhis button is attached to a base-plate, b, which is riveted to-one of the springs G, as shown in Iig. l, and said button is provided, on its outer end, with -a flange,
c, which abuts against the' inner edge of the socket, i
when the two parts of the fastening are` united and exposed to a strain 1n the direction transversely to the `length of the springs O.
follow the motion of the body of tile person .wearing said corset, and in being bent, now in this direction and then in the other, the leaves composing the springs are liable to spread, and to cut the covering of cloth, or other material, by which they are surrounded. t
V This difficulty is ohvated by allowing 'the buttons B a small amount of play in their sockets, in the direction of the length ofthe springs, while they havea -firm hold against a strain transversely to the springs. My fastening iseasily made, and readily fastened and nptastened. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters patent, is
Asa corset-fastening, the plates a b, having on their inner ends the angular hollow projection A, and. i
the solid projection B, adapted to engage with each other, to fasten, orbe detached -to unfasten the corset,
the saidparts being constructed and operating substantially as shown' and described.
This specification signed by me, this (ith day of Septernber, 1869 A y l LUDWIG JARCHOW. Wtnessesz' W. HAUFF,`
E. F. KAs'rnNHUenn.
