Description

JOHANN JAKOB DETTWYLER, OF SISSAOII, SWITZERLAND.
NEWSPAPER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application led December 5, 1905. Serial No. 290,429.
To LZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHANN JAKoB DETT- WYLER, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at Sissach, Basel, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Newspaper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a holder for newspapers and the like in which one oi' the two members between which the newspaper is intended to be iiXed can be held in the open or closed position by means of a clamping device operated by hand, which is arranged in the handle of the other and fixed member and connected with the first mentioned and movable member.
The invention consists more particularly in the means for attaching the two members together.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is an end or edge view of the holder and Fig. 2 a sectional side view thereof.
The iiXed member, 1 of the newspaperholder is furnished with a handle 2 in which a bell-crank lever 3 is pivoted, the longer arm 3 of which is movably connected with the movable member 4, while to the shorter arm 3 oi said toggle-lever a pin 5 is pivotally connected around which a helical spring 6 is coiled. One end of the spring bears against a shoulder of the pin 5 and the other against a screw 8 which is screwed into the bottom of the handle, the action of this spring on the bell-crank lever causing the member 4 to be pressed against the member 1 and securely holding the newspaper placed between said members. The members 1 and 4 are connected by means of U-shaped links 7. The arms of the U-shaped links 7 pass through the members 1 and 4 respectively and are securely held therein. Indentations 9 afford means for conveniently grasping the part 4 when the holder is to be opened or closed.
Owing to the fact that the members 1 and 4 are held together by strong links each made in a single piece, the connection is very iirm. The links are so arranged that the member 4 may lie uniformly for its whole length against the member 1.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is In a paper holder the combinationof a stationary member having a handle, a movable member adapted to bear against or be removed from said stationary member, U- shaped links having their arms engaging said members respectively, a bell-crank lever pivoted Within the handle and connected at one arm to the movable member, and a spring bearing on the other arm of said lever substantially as described. n
In witness whereoi` I have signed this specication in the presence of two witnesses. JOHANN JAKOB DETTWYLER.
