UNITED STATES PIiKL EENT OFFICE.
GLOVE-FASTENER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 19, 1907. 1
Application fil March 5, 1906. Serial No. 804,384.
T0 at whom it may concern; 7
Be it known that I, HENRY SILAS DYKE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Milborne Port, in the county of Somerset, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in glove-fasteners.
The object of the invention is to provide a fastening of this character having means formed integrally with each member, whereby the same may be readily attached to a glove or garment and by means of which the opening in said glove or garment may be quickly and easily fastened in closed position.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the fastening, showing the members of the same in hooked or engaged position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the hook member of the fastening, showing the parts of the same separated; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the eye member of the fastening, showing the parts of the same separated.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the hook member of the fastening, which consists of a hollow head or capiece 2 and a shank-piece 3, said shank-piece liaving an upwardly-projecting flange 4, which is preferably formed integral with the base portion 5 of the shank by being struck upwardly from the center thereof, thereby forming an opening in the base of said shankpiece. Pivotally engaged with the flange 4 of the shank-piece is a hook 6, which is provided with an apertured attaching portion 7, adapted to be slipped over the upwardly-pro jecting flange 4 on the base of the shank-piece, as shown. In assembling the parts of the hook member the flange on the shank-piece is forced upwardly through one side of the opening of the glove, from the under side of the same, after which the hollow head or cappiece 2 is placed on said flange and the parts pressed together, thereby upsetting said flange and clenching the same within the hollow head or cap-piece, thus securely connecting said parts together and to the glove.
The eye member '8 of the fastening consists of an outer disk or plate 9, which is preferably through the material on the opposite side of the opening from that to which the hook member is attached. After the prongs 12 h ave been forced through the material forming the glove a disk or washer-plate 15 is applied to said prongs on the inner side of the glove, said disk or washer being provided with slots 16, through which the prongs 12 are passed. After the prongs are thus passed through the slots 16' the projecting ends of the same are bent over and clenched against the under side of the disk 15, thereby securely attaching said eye member to the glove.
When the parts of the fastening have been connected to the opposite sides of the opening in the glove or garment, as hereinbefore described, the hook 6 may be readily engaged with the slot in the eye member of the fastening, thus quickly and easily securing the parts of the glove-opening together.
From theforegoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the inven tion will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described glove-fastening consisting of a hook member and an eye member, said hook member consisting of a cap having an opening in its under face, and a shank-piece having an outwardly-flaring eyelet, upset within the cap, with the cloth material between said cap and the hook of said member, and a hook secured to said shankmy hand in presence of two subscribing witpiece, said eye member consisting of an outer nesses. disk formed with a struck-up bar and with a slot at one side of said bar, and means to 5 connect said disk to a glove, substantially as Witnesses:
described. GEO. I-I. WELoH,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set H. RoGERs.
HENRY SlLAS DYJQE.
