GARMENT FASTENER.
Application filed December 31, 1926. Serial No. 158,328.
This invention relates to fasteners and has especial reference to garment fasteners.
Some of the objects of the present invention are: to provide coacting fastening units or elements which may be attached to portions of a garment for releasably securing, connecting or hooking said portions together; to provide a garment fastener which may be attached and detached easily and quickly, and to provide a fastener for the intended purposes suitable for all kinds of knitted and other garments;
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will ap pear when the following specification is read .in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view illustrating a portion of a garment with fasteners embodying the present invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view partly in elevation, showing two of the fastener units in coacting relationship.
Fig. 3 is a collective view showing the parts of one of the fastener elements separated prior to their application.
In the illustrated embodiment, the fastener consists of a unit, but which, will be used for the intended purposes in pairs, one unit of each pair attached to one portion of a garment which will coactwith the other unit of the pair, which will be attached to another portion of the garments, both units coacting to releasably connect or hook the portions of the garment together, either in an overlapped relationship or with the edges respectively of the portions meeting in alignment.
Each of the units will consist of two main parts 10 and 11, and attaching means con sisting of two parts 12 and 13. The part 10 may be made of any preferred material and be of any size, and is preferably stamped, out and formed from a single piece of metal to provide a body 14 having a central hole 15, a series of prongs 16, and a loop or eve 17 extending laterally from the edge of the body 14. The part 11 will be stamped, out and formed also from metal and will be of the same general form and construction except that it will be provided with a hook 18 instead of the loop or eye 17 of the part 10. It will be understood that the part 11 will have the body, hole in the body, and prongs on the body which are designated similarly to these parts of the main part 10. The part 12is in the form of a screw having a head 19 engagement with the screw 12. The part 13 may be rounded as shown, so as to eliminate sharp edges. In assembling the several parts of the fastener unit, the part 10 will be arranged on one side of a portion of the garment, the part 11 will be arranged on the other side of said portion directly opposite the part 10, the pointed end of the screw 12 will be passed through the hole 15 in the part 11, through a portion of the garment and through the hole 15 of the part 10. The part 13 will then be screwed on to the part 12 to set up a clamping action. This will cause the prongs 16 of the parts 10 and 11 to be effectively impaled in the portion of the garment and prevent movement of the parts 10 and 11 relatively to the portion of the garment. It will be understood that the fastener unit may be quickly and easily attached, and may be readily detached to change its position on a particular garment or to remove it from one garment to be at tached to another.
It will be understood from the foregoing that each unit will provide a hook and a loop. The use of two such units for coaction, makes it possible to connect or hook together two portions 22 and 23, Fig. 2, in overlapping relationship, with the additional ad vantage, of being permitted to reverse the overlapped relationship of the portions 22 and 23. In other Words either of the portions 22 and 23 may be brought to the outside. It will also be apparent that in view of the use of the parts 12 and 13, sewing is obviated, and by providing the part 12 with a point provision is made for readily. passing the screw through the garment portions.
If desired, the body 1 1 of each of the parts 10 and 11 may be provided with a roughened or ridged surface instead of the prongs 16.
I claim:
1. The combination with portions of a garment capable of overlapping each other, of a hook and eye respectively at opposite sides of each garment portion, the hooks and eyes engageable so as to releasably hold the garment portions overlapped, and for reversing the overlapped relationship of the garment portions.
2. A fastener comprising coacting elements, one ofsaid elements having an eye, the other element having aspring hook engageable in said eye, each of said elements having prongs, and clamping means for securing each of the elements in place With the prongs thereof impaled.
3. A fastener unit comprising a hook member, an eye member, and means adapted to extend through said members for attaching said members respectively to oppositesides of a garment portion.
4. A fastener unit comprising'two parts,
each of said parts including a body Withv holes respectively in the bodies of the parts i for clam-ping theparts together on a garment portion with the prongs impaled in 20 said garment portion.
