FORM FOR DISPLAYING WEARING-APPAREL.
Specification of Letters I Patent.
:atented March 12, 1907.
Application filed November 8, 1904. Renewed July 26, 1906. ,Serial No. 327.962.
Be it known that we, llnxin' C. EDWARDS and HARRY 1i. ll. DUNBAR, subjects of the King of England. residing at Victoria, in. the Province of British (olum bia, Canada, have invented certain now and useful Improvements in Forms for Displaying earing-Apparel, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
l l l l l l l l l This invention has for its principal object to provide a display-form or a plurality of forms representing the several members of l the human body and upon which may be individually exhibited articles of wearingapparel, such as gloves, stockings, shoes, &c.; and a further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the several said unit l members may be assembled to furnish a coml plete figure, so that entire costumes may be 1 displayed thereon with all the semblance of being Worn by a person.
The invention consists in the struction, combination, and adaptation of display-forms to the purposes above mentioned, as will hereinafter be described with i novel conl reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment of our invention, showing the several component or form members assembled in a single figure. Fig. l is a perspective view of a leg member. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of an arm member. Fig. 4 a detail sectional view of a valve included in each member.
In the drawings the relerence-numeral 1 represents the bust or trunk portion of a display-figure, which is preferably formed integral with the upper- arm sections 2, and 3 ands respectively represent lower-arm and leg members. These parts are made of a llexible material impervious to air, such as india-rubber, or of a cloth or fabric which is air-tight or made so through the provision of a liller or lining of an imperviousmaterial. Each said parts is providcd with a valve through which air may be introduced under pressure to inllate the same and yet prevent its accidental escape and may advantageously comprise an internal plate 5, (see Fig. 4,) provided w th an outwardly-projecting central tube portion 5, which is riveted or flanged over an apertured washer or I l l l l i i l l l l l l l i l l l plate 6, placed upon the outer surface of the fabric 7 of the respective part.
Upon the inner surface of the plate 5 and extending over the opening thereof is a flapvalve 8, wbich is held normally in contact with the plate by a spring 9, secured in p? ice by a rivet 10, as shown. A rod 11 extends longitudinally through the trunk 1 and is;
provided with .llanges 11 in proximity of its ends for limiting the same fixedly to the trunk fabric and having its extremities protrude outside of the said trunk and screw threaded to furnish means for making unions with a correspondingly-threaded socket 13 of a supporting-pedestal 14 and, if desired, to a like fitting provided in a head member. (Indicated by broken lines in Fig. 1.) The said pedestal is' provided with laterally-disposed and. downwardly-projecting branches 1%, terminating in screvwthreaded ends, whereby it may be secured to screw-threaded sockets 4 of said leg members. In a' similar manner and for a like purpose the adjacent ends of the said upper and lower arm sections are provided, respectively, with interfitting threaded sockets 15 and studs 16. A con venient and reliable manner of uniting these coupling-fittings-that is, he studs and sockets--to their respective form members is by securing them to 01' forming them integrally with hollow metallic plate portions 17, as shown in Fig. 3, and fastening the latter to the fabric by cement. hand portions of the arm members are wires or rods 18, extending into the several fingers and terminating at their outer ends in balls or ferrules 18 and are connected at their 0pposite ends to the arm by being cemented or stitched between the arm fabric and an inner stiffening piece or liner 19. Tape-pieces 20 are provided at the various knees and elbows ol the legs and arms for the purpose of drawing in the fabric and causing a bend thereat in the respective said members. These tapepieces are each fixedly secured at one end 20 to its member, passing through series of eyes 21, and has one ormore buttonholes 20 at its opposite end, adapted to be caught upon a hook or button 22, provided in the form member.
The manner of using and the advantages of the invention will, it is thought, be understood from the foregoing.
Included in the I trunk, leg an arm portions, a valve for each said portions, means for securing said leg and arm portions in bent positions, and means for detachably connecting said last-named portions to the body portion, substantially as described.
, v2. A display forin, comprised of a trunk an end of each. leg
integral with upper-arm sections, lower-arm members, leg members, said parts being made of inflatable fabric, a edestal for we taining said trunk and having laterally-disposed branches, screwdevices provided upon member for securing the semedo -salid branches," and screw devices provided 11 on the adjacent end of each of theadivide arm members for securing the same together, snbsta'ntiallv as described.
. v3; In a display-form, a limb comprised of 'l-iinfiatable material, a valve, and means .for
wlwtaa ie ly de c I eemin said limb to various bent positions,
' senses 4. In a display-form, an arm member comprised of inflatable material, a valve,
wires respectively secured at one end-t0 said arm member and projecting into the several fingers of the hand thereof, said wires termimating in ferrules, substantially as described.
5. In a display-form, an inflatable limb provided with a valve, a tape fixedly secured at one end to said limb and provided adjacent of its other end with abuttonhole adapted to be caught upon a fastening attachment of the limb, and a series of eyes secured to the limb, substantially as described.
6. A display-form consisting of a sack of air-tight material resembling when inflated a single human limb, means for securing said form in bent positions and an closing valve carried'by said form.
