UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
NEWSPAPER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1907.
Application filed Mar-ch12, 1906. Serial No. 305.542.
To a, whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALwIN KETZSCHER, of RiXdorf-Berlin, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, manufacturer, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Newspaper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention relates to a holder for news aper which consists of a rigid and a fleXib e rod, or of two rigid rods, between which the newspaper is clamped at the back.
My invention consists in a device by which the newspaper put in is bent in the transverse direction. In such a position the newspapers project stiffly from the holder Without the necessity of a support behind By this arrangement the holder is rendered handier and, especially, easier to construct.
The divergence of the rods of the holder. from their rectilinear direction is obtained by bending them in the desired manner. The contrivance can also be made so that the rods at any time can be brought from their curved or bent position into the rectilinear, or vice versa.
The object of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the closed holder in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a front elevation with newspapers in place. Fig. 3 is aside elevation with rods spread, and Fig. 4 is a detail of the locking device for the two rods of the holder in approximately natural size.
With reference to the drawings the holder consists of a rigid rod (1,, diverging from the rectilinear, the one end of which is borne in a handle'b. To the other end there is pivoted a second rod 0, which is preferably elastic, but not necessarily so. The newspaper is clam ed between the two rods. By a suitable ocking device, which preferably is arranged within the handle I), the two rods are pressed against one another.- Thereby the clamped newspaper bulgestransversely acably consists of a hook d, connected with the 5 rotatable free end of the handle by screw and nut. The tongue of the hook projects into a perforation e at the free end of the rod 0. By
cordingto the bend of the rods. It thus .re- 7 turning the free end of the handle the hook I can be drawn into the handle, and thereby the rod 0 be strained so that the same lies close against the rigid rod (1. Having now described the nature of my invention, I declare what I claim is' 1. In a. holder for news apers the combination of a rigid curved rod, a second curved rod fastened to the first in a suitable manner, and means for pressing both rods against Eng another, as and for the purpose specie 2. In a holder for newspapers the combination of a rigid curved rod, an elastic curved rod or strip pivotallysecured to one end of the-latter, and means for keeping bothrods together, as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a holder for newspapers the combination of a rigid curved rod, ahandle provided at the one end, a second curved rod fastened to the other end, and means for keeping both rods together, as and for the purpose specified.
4. In a holder for newspapers the combination of a rigid curved rod, a handle provided at one end, a second curved rod secured to the other end, and ,a locking device within the handle capable ofkeeping both gois together, as and for the purpose specie v p In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
